In "Comedian," his initial CD release, Liam McEneaney shows why he is in demand not just in New York but around the world. He brings priceless insights into the complexities of modern relationships - ones that do and do not require partners - but it's when he closes the apartment door that his tilted take opens up. The city - if Queens counts as that, and he admits it's debatable - is his stage, the place where the neighborhood nicknames bring on the drama. It's seriously funny but McEaneany doesn't stop at the Apple. Beyond the New World lies the old, and for someone named Liam it has to be Ireland's emerald fields and contentious cows. And trains. Ireland is not known for its rail service, and Liam is happy to tell you why. This is quite a ride and the disc's hysterical highlight. For listeners and Liam alike, it's not the destination, it's the journey.

Liam's comedy is infused with NYC-centric crazy truth...sometimes sweet, often laugh-out-loud hysterical, maybe a little uncomfortable now and then (in the best possible way), and always able to make me smile. I rarely buy comedy albums, and I must admit that I partly bought this because I know Liam, but I gotta say - this is a really good album! I saw him perform once about eight years ago. He was funny then, but it was clear that he still had a lot of growing to do as a story-teller and comedian. He's now a true professional. Seriously. If you like Louis C.K., you'll like Liam. Buy this album!

I listened to this on my commute to work this morning and laughed out loud so much I think people started to stare. There is a biting wit throughout the entire CD, yet Liam McEneaney switches from bluntly sarcastic to sincerely heartfelt with a natural ease. The way he retells stories makes you wish he was there to comment on every ridiculous thing that has ever happened to you. There's nothing formulaic about it; it's just honest and brilliantly funny.

I had the privilege of seeing McEneaney open for another comedian in Brooklyn NY. I remember thinking "this kid is a star just waiting to be found and put in a spotlight on every latenight show & comedy central special. When I found out he recorded and released an album, I bought it immediately. I haven't stopped laughing yet. McEneaney is a comic talent of rare proportion. His material is enticing, smart, biting yet controlled. He displays an incredible high-wire act, balancing subtle nuance with flashes of stinging insight that make you laugh. Hard. Just as you think he's about to go off the rails, he reigns that edge back again to lead you further along. Displaying an amazing ability to balance humor with storytelling, in a manner that just can't be taught, McEneaney has provided the clear album of the year. Hands down. We'll all be lucky if there is a second album! Buy this today with confidence. A very very gifted man.

I moved out of NYC before I had a chance to see Liam McEneaney perform live, but now that I have this album, it's almost like he's doing live comedy in my car and my apartment. I love that he turns awkward life moments into stories that make me laugh out loud. Funny stuff.

This album is so funny, I peed my pants. Totally worth having to buy a new mop. I've seen Liam live many times and this album makes you feel like your right there in the room w Liam. Except he's not wearing pants

This man knows his stuff! The album has a nice narrative arc to it, starting off with some relationship material that we can all relate to, then veering into more specific personal history and always-enjoyable self-deprecation, then in one of my favorite parts, Liam deals directly (and deftly) with the audience, then finally ties the whole thing up at the end with some really lovely and hilarious characterizations of his experiences in Ireland. Everything in here is very engaging and entertaining, and it feels as if it ramps up and up in a pretty perfect way, going from chuckle-relatable all the way to flat-out bizarre, idiosyncratic and spontaneous, belly-laugh funny. HIGH-QUALITY COMEDY, worth every penny and more.

If you didn't know what a comedian was, this would be the perfect album to learn from. Not just because it's called Comedian and would probably be the first entry that came up in a search, if you didn't know what a comedian was but still knew had to perform a search for things. Not just for that reason, but also because Liam is very good at what he does. And what he does is be a comedian. Usually Liam does this live but for some reason, he was able to record himself doing it once. He didn't know what to do with the recording at first but because he's a good guy, he decided to share it with the people. His first intention was to only allow people who had never seen him to have access to buying his record. But then, he figured there might be some people who have already seen him who enjoyed it so much, that they might want to have access to it as well. It was a good decision, from a smart, savvy man, who makes very cohesive points. You can hear some of those points on this album, called Comedian.
