Only if you're willing to buy nine more books do you get the full story.
All that said, it is a very good, well written story. I took a good bit of issue with the author's take on many details of technology because i'm very knowledgeable on that. Even so, i love reading SF that deals well with the people. And Mr. George does.
Since i avoid spoilers, that's all i can safely say.
Good story.... many characters to keep you going (good ones and bad ones). Sometime the chapters are day to day and not much time lapse. Other times a couple years may be skipped!! But it is hard to put down at certain points. I only gave it 3 stars because I was disappointed at the end of book 4 to discover the adventure was only beginning.

"Un-putdownable"; "Awesome" etc. To be elevated to that pantheon writers and their works means you are considered to have produced a work deserving to be mention in the same breath as Mazo De La Roche's "Whiteoak Chronicles"; Isaac Asimov's "Foundation" series; David Eddings with the Balgariad and Mallorean sereis; Stepehn Donaldson's "Chronicles of Thomas Coveant" and Stephen Hings "Gunslinger" series and Philip José Farmer's wonderful "Riverworld" books. There are of course many more but there's no doubt in my mind that the Comet Clement series of books is in the same league. I cannot speak highly enough of the staggering breadth of this tale, it's cast of characters are cleverly brought to life as they become interwoven within the main plot and the many sub-plots. That the author artfully and skilfully weaves his take and at the same time further develops his characters as well as introducing new ones is a testimony to his mastery of his craft. So, many congratualtions and thanks for writing this indeed "Epic" series for my enjoyment.
