I tried setting it on and off and tried for over 30 minutes and I was getting ready to bust it with a bat because I would test it, and it wouldn't turn on, or off.
SO PLEASE HIT THAT RESET BUTTON AND SAVE YOURSELF SOME TIME. It will work after resetting it if you had the same issue I had.
Make sure you read the directions because it tells you to plug it in for a few hours before using it because I guess the internal battery needs to be charged first.
I use it for my Red Ear Slider turtle's aquarium heat lamp and the UVB light, which needs to come on and be switched off daily, and over the past few months I have been using it I have not had an issue.
I think I'd suggest buying the cheapest one of these timers that you can find, because it is likely to last only a couple of years, used for a few weeks per year. Buying a more expensive one gets you nothing.

OK. Before choosing this timer, I read a lot of reviews. And so, knowing that it had been necessary to RESET it to make it work, in a couple of cases, I decided to RESET my timers before attempting to program them.
RESETTING the timer is done simply by pushing the little round button on the right using the tip of a paper clip or similar object. The timer responds immediately and the screen flashes briefly then the clock reads 12:00
Now, if you want to read the instruction MANUAL (a SINGLE sheet), please look at the PAGE numbers on the paper. If you unfold the paper, you may not know where to start from (!) because the text/page ordering was based on the paper remaining folded lengthwise (!) Once you noticed the small numbers that are meant to serve at "page numbers", it all start to make sense and the text flows. BTW, even though the company address is from BC, Canada, the included instruction page is printed with the same information on both sides: ENG only.
ADJUSTING the TIME is done quickly, first by pressing and holding both the CLOCK & HOUR buttons: the numbers will move ahead very fast. Then, you repeat the procedure pressing and holding the CLOCK & MIN buttons. Then you should set the DAY of the WEEK, by pressing & holding the WEEK button.
Once this is done, you are ready to program the timer.
You can program up to 8 different sets of ON/off sequences. Very easy to do & edit. Pressing on PROG once gets you in the PROG1, ON, you determine the time the unit will turn on both plugs. First, set the HOUR, (press and hold until you get the correct hour), then set the MIN (press and hold until you get the correct minutes), then, set the CORRECT DAY, or COMBINATION of DAYS by pressing on WEEK repetitively until you see the day or sequence days you want. If you want en EVERY DAY setting, no need to press on the WEEK button as it is the default choice. Once you are satisfied with the ON time and DAY/DAYS/COMBINATION of DAYS, for the first PROG, press the PROG button a second time, you will see the PROG 1, OFF, you must now determine the time you want the plugs to be deactivated for that first program. First, set the HOUR (press and hold until you get the correct hour), then set the MIN (press and hold until you get the correct minutes), then set The CORRECT DAY/ or COMBINATION of DAYS by pressing the WEEK button until you see the day or combination of days you want. If you want an EVERY DAY setting, no need to press WEEK, it is the default setting. Once you are satisfied with the settings of the OFF time and DAY. Proceed to the next program.
To start the next program, press PROG again and repeat the previous steps.
To edit any program already entered, simply get to that program using the PROG button, pressing on it repetitively until you get to the step you wish to edit, then proceed to the HOUR, MIN, or WEEK button.
Programming the timers was easy, quick, and fairly intuitive. BUT I had an unpleasant surprise upon PLUGGING the timers in the electrical outlets and, since there is absolutely no trouble shooting info, I came to an inch from returning the whole bunch of them.
HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW AND WON'T FIND IN THE INSTRUCTIONS: once you are done with the programming of the timer,
•IF YOU ARE ALREADY WITHIN a programmed setting when you plug in the timer - let us suppose that one of your set programs tells the timer to be ON at 9:00 AM on Tuesday and OFF at 7 PM on Tuesday, and that it is presently mid-afternoon on Tuesday - you may end up with a timer that "doesn't work"!! But actually, it only "looks like it's not working" because it never received the command to go on at 9:00AM that morning (!) The way around this is to press twice on the ON/AUTO/OFF button at the bottom right of the timer. Pressing once, puts the timer in the mode ON (this mode does NOT take ANY programming into account, the two plugs are ON ALL THE TIME), in AUTO mode, the timer uses the PROGRAMS. So pressing TWICE on that button and stopping on AUTO will ENGAGE whatever program should be on at that time (including the one that should have been on at 9AM)
•SOMETHING ELSE YOU SHOULD KNOW: the RED LIGHT on the timer only goes on while the timer is active, that is while a program is running - or when the timer is in the ON mode. So if you plug in your timer and there is NO RED LIGHT ON, do not conclude that the timer is defective. First, check if there is a program set for the present time. If so and if you already are in the middle of if, get it started by pressing the ON/AUTO/OFF button (bottom right) twice. The red light will come on and the program will run. Everything will be fine from then on.
Best of luck to you all. It's a good timer!
