Top Customer Reviews
1.Well built steel frame and foundation, not cheap
plastic. Blades/grill interior can be easily be accessed
by few simple turns of a screw for cleaning. Great
Amazon price & manufacturers warranty too (not that
think you'd need it).
2.Circular,not "box style",ventilation pattern that cools
especially well when put in front of a AC or central AC
vent (see my pic). It's also very quiet just make sure to
put on a flat surface. I have a same size kenmore
boxfan i'm comparing to and the Comfort Zone wins
hands down in terms of noise and comfort.
3.Cut your cooling power bill in half or more! In a dirty black summer as per the one we're having now, this fan uses a fraction of the electricity your AC unit does so you can run it higher in peak hrs. I'm able to run my central AC @ 75 vs 72 in the room I need cooled the most w/ this on simultaneously.
4. Asthetically pleasing design and color. Usually takes 2 days for delivery, but this item got to me in a day w/ Amazons prime delivery for whatever reason. No complaints here!
And that's all folks...
Then once you get the front off you find you need another long long flathead screw driver to unscrew the locking screw to release the blade presuming you don't live in a sealed dust free environment because this thing looked dusty with black shroud and silver colored blades in a matter of two weeks.
I could not have been more careful to clean that blade assembly if I'd been handling nitroglycerin, delicately saturating them with windex then keeping any blades from bending & 1mm & cleaned them & carefully screwed the blades back on, then stupidly screwed the shroud back together (The rear guard does not come off for cleaning so you have to do it by hand & that's a minor pain.)
Only then did I turn it on to hear it squealing.
The noise came & went, varied with the angle, improved a good bit but returned every time it was moved & turned back on again. Some angles are impossible.
Luckily I contacted the seller found here in my orders & was weeks shy of the 1 year warranty so they said if I merely cut 2 to 4 inches off the cord with the plug & mailed it to them with the emailed form they sent they'd send me a new one.
Well I've since bought a 20" Lazko & the thing's five times more powerful, heavier, specifically made for floor or wall use even coming with TWO wall mounting brackets so you can choose more than one spot.
The wire of the shroud around the fan is twice as thick as the Comfort Zone which began bending here and there from just looking at it crossways.
The larger Lazko is no louder, in fact on it's more powerful first low setting it's quieter than the Comfort Zone on it's lowest.
Best of all the people at Lazko clearly understand most people aren't slobs who want to look at dust & cob webs forming on a fan in the middle of their home so it is made with easy release lever clamps that lock the front & back halves of the shroud together making it easy to clean.
Just the feel of this in my hand, the heft of the motor, the fact that the switch plate is nicely made & screws into the lower front of the legs so that if you mount on wall it's easy to reach while the Comfort Zone uses the cheaper crappier plastic knob screwed on the upper rear of the fan shroud where you couldn't reach it to change speeds if it were up on a wall.
Oh -- and when I cut the cord to send the plug back to the company for proof of warranty - the wires inside that thick black outer shield were thinner than a 18 gauge lamp cord with very thin insulation around them, the kind you can strip by pulling the wire between your teeth.
Interestingly the last time I unplugged this P.O.S. I noticed the grounding prong was missing - it was stuck in the outlet. Pulled right out of the plug & guess what? Once I fished it out, I realized there was nothing whatsoever to which that grounding prong was attached but the rubber plug. Nothing. It's just a dummy post of metal rod stuck in the plug for show.
Bottom line is that I am well pleased. It's early yet but this fan seems to be of good quality and it fills my needs precisely. The price is right too. The local big box superstore wanted more money for a fan that was essentially made of plastic. I don't hesitate to recommend this particular fan. If it fails to give good service (read "fails in an unreasonably short period of time or experiences other issues"), I'll update this review. Till then, five stars.
