Prevent Vertical Scratching + Urine Spraying
How does it work?
Cats rub their cheeks against objects to leave their facial pheromone when they feel safe. The Comfort Zone Spray with Feliway dispenses a drug-free, odorless vapor that mimics a cat’s natural calming pheromones. This vapor signals to your cat that the area is friendly and safe, reducing your cat’s need to spray and scratch.
Proven 90% Effective*
Comfort Zone products with Feliway are clinically proven to help reduce vertical scratching and urine spraying in 9 out of 10 cats in 28 days*.
How do I use the Comfort Zone Spray with Feliway?
To transport your cat, spray inside the carrier or vehicle 20 minutes before transporting your cat. To prevent urine marking and scratching in the house, spray once per day on prominent objects that could be attractive to your cat.
How long does the product need to be used until noticeable positive effects are observed?
Ideally, the product should be used for at least one month. Results have been noticed as early as one week. The degree of results will also depend on behaviors of your pet, some will respond faster and better than others.
Many situations can cause your cat to behave this way:
- Multi-pet households
- Transition from shelter or breeder
- Moving, or changes to home or furniture
- New people and pets in the home

UPDATE I applied a squirt to a disputed zone on the couch, all 3 cats will now faux blanket me without squabbling. Mirabell usually only accepts a few minutes of petting; when I massaged her near the sprayed zone she started suckling like a baby kitten. Bonding and trust have taken time with all my cat relationships but this is an easy way to communicate your good intentions. UPDATE last photo shows she now has a best friend.
I notice there are two brands using the term "Feliway." This item is from Comfort Zone and the others are from CEVA. The CEVA packaging looks more like what I am used to seeing (and buying) from my vet's office. So I suspect that is a better product, and I am going to pick some up this week.
The other thing I don't love about this is that when you spray it, you get a good whiff of alcohol. Now, I realize that it has to have a solvent if you are going to spray cat pheromones. It wouldn't be effective to spray without solvent. But if you are going to try this, I suggest spraying it on an item (towel, blanket, cat bed) while it is NOT near your cat, waiting for the alcohol to evaporate, and then give the item to your cat.
I have recently adopted a young stray intact male who just loves to spray and covering his spray with this helps a good bit (also using Nature's Miracle). He came to be here and stay because I have a female (spayed) cat and my neighbors behind me do as well and both go out to get some sun. He has been on his own for at least 6 months and seemed mostly feral. He is doing quite well now after his neuter, vaccines, flea treatment, and getting a chip.
The spray is especially helpful when used on a hand towel placed in the carrier 20min before getting the cat in, almost no complaints when in the car for the 3 mile trip to the Vet or back. I did also administer the prescribed gabapentin 2hrs prior to all Vet visits. Sour cream was the vehicle.
It has also helped to alleviate the choke points in my house where the two cats may have to pass each other in closer proximity than they would like.
I've been using it as a temporary "getting to know you" type of thing over a couple of months with a new cat. It's too expensive to use long term since a complete spray of this small house all possible spray targets seems to take about 1/2 of the bottle. It does work and works well and has no perceivable odor for me, unlike the Nature's Miracle.
I should point out that my Vet who is the one feline-only Vet in the entire county uses this and had it on hand for this new cat's overnight stay.
A great trick for taking them to the vet is to spray the carrier and a towel with the Feliway Spray about 15 minutes before taking them to the vet then putting them in with the towel. I find the towel really holds onto the spray. It likely won't make your cat perfectly calm, but can help. Especially if you use it around the house, it will be a familiar smell for them.
