I'm not even sure how e-books work as this is my first experience with that technology. I love the convenience but I'm not sure I like that things appear to change without knowing why. I found a recipe yesterday I wanted to look at and when I selected that link in the table of contents it took me to another recipe. I just thought it was an error in the link. I've searched again this morning and the recipe seems to have disappeared from the index. Not sure I like purchasing something that can be tampered with from outside without my knowledge. The missing recipe was for a chocolate molten "lava" cake or some such title and the link led to the Apple Upside Down cake.
I will say I just took the Cream Cheese Pound Cake out of the oven and the house smells heavenly! This was a favorite growing up. I made the mini loaves - my pans made four and they are beautiful. Can't wait to taste them. I have no doubt they will be excellent. Nothing could smell that good and not taste just as yummy! This recipe did omit the amount of vanilla needed even though the instructions included vanilla in the mix of wet ingredients. I used 1 tsp. just as a logical choice.
I would recommend this book and her first book, "Satisfying Eats". I can't imagine I will ever run out of good things to make and freeze and store. It's so good to know this is helping keep us very healthy. I started this after reading Dr. Davis' "Wheat Belly" book. I do find Melissa's recipes much more in line with the foods I'm more familiar with. It's well worth the small amount charged for both e-books. I'm thinking down the road I may want hard copies of the spiral bound versions.
After going through the cookbook and liking it so well, I decided to go to her website and instantly fell in love. Great recipes on the website too. I will be buying Melissa's other cookbook, Satisfying Eats, because I believe she is extremely talented in coming up with grain free options that taste and look really good. Oh I also like the use of Stevia in the recipes, but options for other sweeteners also.
This will absolutely be my go to cookbook when I have to figure out what's for dinner and definitely dessert!
Oh I forgot to mention the food is all real, whole foods that you feel good about feeding your family. No junk in this cookbook. I like the way she uses ingredients that you will probably already have or can easily get at your local grocery store.
One last thing, I liked that there were a few recipes for protein shakes that had around 15 grams of protein in them, but without the expensive whey protein. I hate trying to figure out which protein is best and how it was made and what the heck is in it. I really like having the option to make my own and know exactly what's in it. I have 4 boys who all drink protein shakes, so these recipes will save me some money!
I highly recommend this cookbook and her website, satisfying eats.com. I was just on the website tonight literally drooling! I am so impressed with the pictures and the recipes on the website and in this cookbook.
My mom and I have both made plenty of Melissa's recipes and they are pretty much all delicious! I am grateful to have this as a resource for feeding my family. I like to create my own recipes. but when it comes to grain free baking, trial and error are just too expensive for me, and Melissa removes that part of the equation so that we are able to enjoy grain free, sugar free baked goods on a budget that are already taste tested... my three year old also approves of her food :)
