Larry Burkett died in 2003 but his book "Coming Economic Earthquake" is accurate on just about every point except the timing, which he admitted he couldn't predict with any accuracy. Every one of his key points has been proven true, even his discussion of the Health Security Act, which we now know as Obamacare. What he wrote in 1991 and updated in 1993/1994 is still almost textbook accurate as to the source of the economic issues and the result of the popular choices our Congress and Administration have been making for 60 years.
What Larry didn't know at the time of his writing is that there would be a revolt and the 1994 Congress would be entirely different from what he assumed. That revolt delayed, postponed, and adjusted the economic reality and the timing of everything he wrote about. It didn't undermine the accuracy and truthfulness of his statements, it only delayed the outcomes he predicted. Today, in 2012, we see much of what he predicted coming true. The only question is, will there be another revolt to temporarily halt the incessant march to economic suicide?
If you're looking for a good primer on what's wrong with our U.S. economy you probably can't do better than to start with Larry Burkett's analysis, written for the average tax payer, you and me. He doesn't end with all doom and gloom. He points out with surgical precision what can be done to change the outcome. The question is, will anyone be willing to take the medicine?
