Reid lives a very different like on St. Kitts, but he has never been able to forget the beautiful young woman who captured his heart ten years earlier. He's tried to move on, but a visit from Kate pulls him back into the past and the magic they shared. This magic is not shared by Kate's family or Reid's son Ashton, who wants Kate's older sister and manager, Jill.
There are fences to mend and hurdles to overcome, Kate's father Jack Harrington notwithstanding. Kate wants the entire clan home at her place in Hendersonville, TN for Christmas, but with her father's and Ashton's opposition, a miracle may be needed.
I enjoyed this conclusion to the Treading Water series. Ms. Force's characters were warm, believable and furthered the story. I could suspend my disbelief about the twenty-eight year age difference between Kate and Reid, however, I did not get a sense of how these two were soulmates except for their numerous sexual encounters. I would like to have had more instances of family dynamics or certainly the companionable things couples do besides making love 24/7. That aspect notwithstanding, I enjoyed the story very much.
I'm glad everyone else did so well in this book. The whole family has evolved. With all the marriages ahead for so many of the children the small unit that started with Jack and Claire becomes quite a snowball. I very much enjoyed the side story for Jill and Ashton, too. I did feel they were perfect as a couple and the romance written for them was a wonderful extra treat in reading this book.
This did feel like the last book, to me. It was a perfect way to end the series and if so; left this reader wanting for nothing. What I was left with was hope. There is such a thing as leaving us readers wanting more and for a writer nothing is better than to leave a series at the point where we're left with joy. As always, I know our dear authoress will go with her muse and if her muse stops this series here, I'm one happy camper.
Each book in this series tells its own individual story and conveys the love of family. Put together as a series the story is so much broader and gives us readers a wonderful family that triumphs through drama, tragedies, happy-times, disappointments, growth, and romance - especially the romance!
Enough said. I recommend this whole series from book one to four. Read in order. You'll love it.
