Commercialization of the Oceans (An Impact book) Library Binding – April 1, 1987
From School Library Journal
Grade 7 Up Sedge explores in depth current and future uses of the seas and the impact of technology on them. He describes recent technological advances and their advantages in clear, straightforward language, paying attention to the problems involvedeconomic, ecologic, and social. Food, minerals, and energy, as well as dumping, are all considered without bias. This is a thought-provoking book that provides no simple solutions. The black-and-white photographs are adequate. Carter's Oceans (Childrens, 1982) is for younger readers and devotes only one chapter to commercial uses without discussing any of the problems. Bardach's Harvest of the Seas (Harper, 1968; o.p.) is outdated. Meryl Silverstein, Meyer Levin Junior High School, Brooklyn
