Product Description
It is a great pleasure to introduce this picture I directed in 988 in this new DVD special edition. A truly independent feature, Communion continues to be a controversial film for anyone with a closed mind. At the time it was made, as filmmakers we had to fight for the right to make it ambiguous and agnostic in regard to the issue of an alien presence. Various powerful film companies wanted a straight horror film or an outright affirmation of alien existence which would have undermined an unbiased point of view. The psychological dimensions of Whitley Strieber's extraordinary book upon which the film is based continue to facinate me and the issues raised in the film continue to engage millions. A man approached me at a UFO conference and said, "Your film is a fraud." I replied, "How can you say that?" He answered, "the aliens told me!"

- Reviewed in the United States on February 21, 2024I have seen this moive before and really like it despite that it is very strange and sometimes mindbending. Christopher Walken an Lindsay Crouse are excellent protraying the ups and downs of life. Great all around cast.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 23, 2016First I love Christopher Walken. A great actor, kinda odd but cool and very talented. This movie is an "odd" one but they could not have cast it better. It is a great old "cult" classic for a vintage movie collector. The story is "based on the true life experiences" of Whitley Streiber. He had an "alien" encounter and his family and a few friends experienced something as well. If you've seen Fire in the Sky, the "true life story" of another UFO abductee, you come to realize that there is an eerie similarity in the experiences the two men had. If you are interested in UFO's and this sort of thing I can definitely recommend Communion and Fire in the Sky. If you like creepy, odd, interesting tales of the unusual these films are also perfect for you. Chris Walken is a magnificent actor and I can highly recommend almost all of his films. He is also a great dancer and has great energy. I am very pleased with this purchase.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 24, 2003A TRUELY CREEPY film starring the wonderful Christopher Walken.
But after reading the book DMT: THE SPIRIT MOLECULE by Dr. Rick Strassman, maybe Mr. Strieber whose autobiographical story this is, is a man plagued by an endogenous (occurring within) chemical produced by the pineal gland called DMT (dimethyltryptamine). South American shamans and healers drink this in the form of a brew called AYAHUASCA. Known celebrities such as Sting and Paul Simon have imbibed in this ceremonial hallucinogen. Some, but not all, of the people who have ingested this chemical report very real experiences of fairies, elves and alien entities who often probe, work, and sometimes heal the participant. The theory is that the glands of people who experience alien abduction, are overproducing the chemical DMT. However, almost all of these participants believe that they were experiencing these alien entities and probes in a VERY REAL hyper-dimension that co-exists side by side with ours. AND that these entities are REAL. Which makes this film all the more intriguing!!
Is Whitley Strieber hallucinating or is he really tapping into another dimension? I tend to believe the latter.
READ WHITLEY STRIEBER'S BOOK ALONG WITH DMT: THE SPIRIT MOLECULE BY RICK STRASSMAN, M.D. (available here at Amazon.com)
THEN BEND YOUR MIND WITH THIS GREAT FILM AND DECIDE FOR YOURSELF.
YOU CAN'T BEAT THE PRICE!!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 30, 2024It's good for the era in which it was made.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 27, 2016After reading the book of the same name, I went into this with high expectations. I have seen many presentations given by Whitley Strieber, and while I'm a very big fan of Christopher Walken, he doesn't seem to fit the profile. Either mentally or physically. Walken's creative craziness doesn't match the Strieber that I've seen in many UFO Symposiums and various speeches he's given. The little gnome guys are a different take on your 'normal' run-of-the-mill grays also. Very disturbing, is the scene of poor Strieber/Walken being 'taken unnaturally'! I've heard and read unpleasant things concerning the abduction phenomenon, but I think they could have left that out-especially since he didn't exactly 'put up a fight', if you know what I mean. Before I ordered this, I had read other reviews of it and many people mentioned the 'hokeyness' factor. But, because I am trying to build my UFO library with movies that are only based on factual cases and no fiction-if I can help it,I ordered it anyway. Especially, after reading the book, which is quite a bit different, by the way, since I'm sure you've asked that question from the 'git-go'. While a few things are the same and the regular daily life seems to be what Strieber described, Hollywood strayed from his actual account in more ways than one. Never the less, I had to have this in my collection because it's based on real experiences. It was very hard to find too. I looked everywhere in my area of the Baltimore/Washington D.C. corridor to no avail. So, I went home and flipped on my idiot box(no, not the TV!) and started scanning Amazon. Boom! There it was. 'What's that? Credit card number?" Next thing you know, one week later, there it was, in my hand. I immediately sat down to watch it and came away a little disappointed, but not regretful of buying it. It was hard to find and I'm glad that I did finally get it. I've been wanting to see it for a long time. Now, if they would just update it with some better effects and pay closer attention to what Mr. Streiber has to say, they might have something that many people will be willing to listen to. Mr. Streiber says that he is still experiencing things from time to time and it has always been a very serious issue for him to deal with. They could do him a favor and take him a little more serious, instead of making a mockery of his story. The abduction phenomenon is a world-wide thing, and he is one of millions that report being taken every year. Each year, 100,000 children disappear and 1,000,000 adults also, with no trace-nothing! Gone! Where are they and why are some lucky enough to be returned to tell about it?
- Reviewed in the United States on October 1, 2023The movie was good but the book was even better. The movie was a little spooky yet corny at times regarding the aliens. Overall still a good one to watch. Excellent cast/crew in it.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 26, 2024It was interesting that’s for sure.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 21, 2025Horrible movie. Cheesy, slow, poorly acted. Total waste of time.

From the AMAZING dream-like opening theme by Eric Clapton, to the moment the film ends is a alien abduction film like no other.
Australian filmmaker Phillipe Mora has crafted one of the most bizarre, yet beautiful films on the alien phenomena. Christopher Walken is eccentric as ever in his portrayal as renowned author Whitley Streiber, which also lends itself to the atmosphere of the film. He does things like talk to himself aloud, film himself while writing his novels and make weird, oddball jokes, and I do mean odd.
The alien sequences are where this film really shines. They're done so well, whether they're happening to him while he's awake, or under hypnosis, reliving surreal nightmares. There are 2 types of aliens in this film. One of the species looks EXACTLY like the 'Gray Alien' creature which is illustrated on Streiber's own novel. The other type are smaller, cloaked blue-faced munchkin-like creatures which I'm not sure were in the book, but are a welcome addition to this weird film!!
Walken's slapstick humor with the creatures is hysterical. He seems really out of it when he's abducted, but he's still cracking jokes and insulting his captors, though his captors are far from amused.
Still, it's a wonderful movie with an odd atmosphere that truly makes it feel one of a kind. (Which it is!!) You'll never see another trippy alien abduction film like this.
SEE it. Seeing is believing.
We are not alone.

DavideReviewed in Italy on March 29, 20232.0 out of 5 stars Communion

Excellent and enjoyable film that has taken a while for me to find on BluRay for a good price. Great performances by Christopher Walken and cast, and a fascinating and thought- provoking storyline. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing it again.
