About the Author

MEREDITH MINKLER, DrPH, MPH, is a professor of health and behavior at the School of Public Health, University of California, Berkeley, and the founding director of the university’s Center on Aging. She is the coauthor or editor of numerous books, including Community-Based Participatory Research: From Processes to Outcomes (with Nina Wallerstein).

This is a superb book providing you with the concepts and frameworks for meaningful and participatory work in a community. It provides a superb history with many case studies. Some of the book, however, is dated already.... in particular the use of the internet and social media and the chapter on the arts. There is a newer book (2017 I think) edited by Nina Wallerstein, 2 others, and Minkler that appears to be similar in format and core materials but is more up to date. I teach from this text but have recommended the more current book to our Literature Committee.
