Trace the evolution of automatic Morse code devices from the early 1800s to today through this informative text and over 1,100 photos. Beginning with an overview of telegraphy and early key history, fifteen sections explore the equipment used to send messages over long distances. Featured are code readers, oscillators, Morse trainers, electronic keyers, single- and dual-lever paddles, portable paddles, automatic mechanical keys, accessories, and more. Each device is presented in text and images, some with classic advertisements; this combination allows the reader to appreciate device development and better understand the thinking that went into the design. Paddle and key maintenance and adjustment are also examined, as well as computer interfacing and use of the Internet. The book also includes the results of patent studies and historical research, with many new findings presented, making it a must-have for collectors, ham operators, or anyone interested in the history of these communication devices.

One of the best books I have ever read on the subject of Morse keys and just about everything else you can think of to do with Morse code. Contains over 1,100 excellent pictures and very readable prose describing the progression of keys, oscillators, even keyboards and keyers this book has it all.
How does someone write a book as good as this? I don't know but I am very glad Edwin Goss did.

Fantastic!

Fantastic! A very niche subject that is obviously about a subject close to the authors heart. Superb quality photos, almost all in colour on high quality glossy paper. A fascinating history which also includes early history of Morse keys, training methods and devices. If this was a medical textbook (which would have a much wider market) it would cost between £100 and £200 - I got my copy, brand new, from Wordery, through Amazon for less than £40. If you are Morse enthusiast it should be on your bookshelf next to Pierpont's Art and Skill of Radio Telegraphy. As usual, Wordery delivered the goods quickly and in perfect condition.
