First of all, the package says you can customize your workout, but I couldn't find such a feature *anywhere* on the DVD. Also, the menu is awkward. Unless you know something about her workouts, it's not obvious that Fat Burning Part 1 is really Day 1/Upper body for Itensity and Insanity, and Part 2 is Day 2/Lower body for Intensity and Insanity.
As for the DVD content, for Parts 1 & 2,, she never says Intensity and Insanity are combined, or to skip a particular exercise if you're doing Intensity, and I'm guessing it's because she assumes you've already read the book. (I did, but it's still worth mentioning.) The other issue - and it's really a 'Joyce' thing before the ones with her daughter, Marthe - is that she often loses count of the repetitions. She also waits till the end of the workout to provide alternative exercises. She doesn't tell you that's what's at the end (she only says to keep watching), she doesn't mention there's an alternative during the actual workout, and there's nothing on the DVD menu so you can skip to that before you start.
Now here's why you should absolutely buy this DVD (if you can find it for less than an obscene price of over $100)...
The REAL value is in the pacing of the workout, which you can't get from any book. To get the most out of the workout, it helps to know if you're going too fast or too slow. I'd recommend getting thoroughly familiar with the book before trying this DVD. Then run through it for a few workouts until you get the pace down.
As dated as the outfits, hair, makeup, and music are (it was the '90s), I would totally buy a remastered version that included better DVD menuing (and maybe a new music track).
I am 59 yrs old and find this workout to be challenging but not overly difficult. I am also very pleased that I can now fit into the clothes that did not fit 2 months ago and people are starting to notice the results.
