This was a series I fell in love with as a kid and now I am happy to give as a gift to my 8 and 11 year old niece and nephew. They fell in love immediately as well and were already asking for this second volume when only half way through the first. These are thick and have a LOT of content in them!
Note that this version does not have color images as the old Starblaze/Donner did. Sadly, color versions are no longer in print. But this kids love this in black and white just as fine.

About the Author
50 years ago, Wendy Pini was born Wendy Fletcher in San Francisco. Growing up on an isolated ranch in Gilroy, California, Wendy's imagination was fueled by all forms of fantasy and mythology. At an early age she began spinning her own tales of elves, monkey-gods, aliens and sorcerers. While her artistic talents were influenced by of turn-of-the-century illustrators, film and TV animation, her storytelling abilities evolved from a love of Shakespeare, Japanese history and legend, modern fantasy and the epic poetry of the Ramayana.
In 1977, a deeply personal project called ELFQUEST was born. As the first continuing fantasy/adventure graphic novel series in America to be co-created, written and illustrated by a woman, ELFQUEST became a phenomenon in the comics industry. Appealing to comics and sci-fi/fantasy fans alike, it attracted a unique and unprecedented audience, an equal mix of male and female readers. Over three million copies of the collected graphic novel volumes have been sold to date.
For Wendy, ELFQUEST has been an ongoing labor of love for over two decades. With husband/editor/facilitator Richard, she has scripted, drawn and painted many ELFQUEST graphic novels, co-written and illustrated prose novelizations, produced calendars, portfolios and art prints and provided cover art for the ELFQUEST related anthology series "Blood of Ten Chiefs." The author lives in Los Angeles, CA..

These are true graphic novels. Think "Lord of the Rings" with Tolkien's hand colored illustrations on every page. If Tolkien had lived in the swinging 60's instead of the grim 30's.
Unlike "Rings", however, the theme is not so much saving the world as saving our people. Cutter and his elves face attempted genocide (by humans), loss of their homeland, a near fatal trek through the desert, and grudging acceptance by the more fortunate elves who take them in. Sound familiar? I would make everyone who wants to limit acceptance of refugees read this series.
Volume 2 continues Cutter's quest to find more surviving elves/allies. It only loses a star because it is Act 2, and not all storylines are resolved. There's also a lot more death and less romance than in Volume 1. Can't wait for Volume 3!

I bought the kindle version of Volume 1 and 2. I now wish to purchase both in book format. I was delighted to revisit my teenage comic and went so far as to go the website and get caught up on what had gone on in the past 20 years or so. Now I'm even subscribed at my local comic store to get the Final Quest issues as they come out, absolutely loving it. The World of Two Moons is a great place to visit time and time again. The Wild Hunt was by far my favorite of the fringe stories that came after the original quest, I highly recommend it to old EQ fans who missed out on the aftermath. The Hidden Years is also a must read.

Just as the first volume was in black in white this one is also. Fear not comic lovers...this collection of stories [ in comic form, of course ] easily add the missing colors as the pages go on! These stories are amazing! I love reading more and more each day, and cant wait for the next collection to arrive in my mailbox!

I had technically read this before, like I had volume 1,but I had never properly finished it till now. And it looks like I still got plenty more to go before I reach ‘the final quest’

It is Elfquest, if you are buying this, you already know. This picks up after the original quest, no spoilers. I read the original quest thirty years ago after a chance meeting with someone affiliated with the comics on a bus in NorCal. They helped create my love for literature.

I love Elfquest. I don't remember exactly when I first read it but I'm pretty sure it was somewhere between 10 and 13, It was my mom's copy of fire and flight and it was amazing. I had thought for years that was all there was that it was kind of a one shot thing but then I found issues for Siege at Blue mountain. Not knowing any of the new characters introduced in the stories between fire and flight and siege, I still loved it anyway. I'm so happy that these collections are available and hope to eventually get hard copies of them all to put in my collection. (Currently have the digital release.)

Highly recommended fantasy graphic novel.

This is a classic story of elves and trolls. Wendy and Richard Pini have come up with a brilliant world. Populated by real and fully defined characters. The two stories in this book expand on the world after the original quest. Bringing in to the story new characters and new dangers. If you are into graphic novels or fantasy then this book is for you.

Continue the adventure with Cutter and the Wolfriders. I've always like the 2 story arc of this compilation cause it offers many insightful revelations. Also fleshes out the characters really well. Reading this makes reminds me of the past when I first read Elfquest. I plan to collect all the compilations of this type but Kings of The Broken Wheel will always be one of my favorite arcs.

My review is a year or two late, but now’s the time for catching up! This was a very hard to get book and when I finally got this one there was Damage on it. The story and art was amazing however. The 4 stars was for the quality the book came in.
