About the author

Kayte Terry has been making things for her entire life. As a kid, she and her mom were always making costumes, baking cookies and constructing elaborate dioramas.
Today, Kayte works as a stylist, writer and all-around crafty lady living in Brooklyn, NY. Kayte worked as a Visual Manager at Anthropologie in New York City for five years, overseeing all merchandising and displays in the stores and assisting the Corporate Visual teams with Store Openings and Press Previews.
Kayte contributes as a stylist and crafter for magazines such as Adorn, Cutting Edge, Craft Stylish, Crochet Today, Parents and Quick and Simple. She was the fashion and prop stylist for Diana Rupp's popular sewing book, Sew Everything Workshop and contributed a project to Susan Beals' recently released book, Bead Simple. Kayte is a weekly contributor to Craft Stylish.com and has contributed articles to HGTV Ideas magazine, Getcrafty.com, CRAFT zine and the Storque on Etsy.com. Kayte continues to freelance for Anthropologie, working on holiday displays and special projects.
Kayte has a small line of crafts called This is Love Forever that she sells on Etsy, at craft fairs such as Renegade Craft Fair and the Bust Craftacular and through selected boutiques. Almost everything Kayte makes is one of a kind; she loves to try new things and has sold everything from jewelry and pincushions to altered vintage clothing and plush fabric food. This is Love forever is also the name of Kayte's blog, where she showcases her own work as well as other she finds inspiring. This is Love Forever gets over 1000 hits a day.
Kayte has always been a dedicated member of the crafting and design community. She was a founding member of the Department of Craft, a New York based design collective that includes Megan Nicolay, author of Generation T and Enid Crow, an accomplished fine art photographer. She was also the fashion show coordinator for LadyFestEast, a grassroots festival founded to support women in the arts. Currently, Kayte is an active member of the New New Etsy team where her responsibilities include editing the blog and coordinating advertising for their craft fairs. She also works with several other craft groups to throw monthly Craft on Draught parties, where they teach and assist people with their craft projects.
Kayte's most exciting project to date is her first book, Complete Embellishing published in July 2008 from UK publisher Collins and Brown. Featuring thirty-five embellishing projects for apparel, accessories and home, complete Embellishing really shows off Kayte's range of crafty knowledge and her vintage yet sophisticated aesthetic.
Kayte is currently working on her second book, Applique Your Way and a companion craft kit, both due in fall 2009 from Chronicle Books.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 22, 2008Very doable projects.Gorgeouse photos and styling to inspire creativity and I was actualy wowed at the re-use ideas.
I actualy pulled out a skirt that still had tags on it-that I decided just didnt suit me-and cut it up,did this adorable bird applique(in about 2hrs!) and I have worn it twice already! That skirt had been sitting in the closet with tags on for a year!
The instructions and diagrams are very clear.I think this book would suit a lot of people, weather new or seasoned sewers/crafters/revampers/embelishers of clothing or new at it.It has a lot to offer.Again.I LOVE the pictures!
Oh AND the hard cover with the spiral bound pages inside was a big plus for me.The pages stay open so I can refer to it while working o my project!
LOVE IT!

- Reviewed in the United States on January 20, 2009I am very pleased with this book! The projects are unusual and the instructions are simple to follow. It includes a reference section of stitches and skills at the beginning that is helpful as you proceed to the projects.
I haven't actually followed an exact project, which may be what I like most of all! I found a few different ideas that I liked, but wanted something a little different. I combined/tweaked and have been able to remake two old cardigans and a skirt. These instructions give a great outline and inspiration, but you aren't bound to follow them only. I've been inspired by it many different ways, and everyone I've shared it with loves it too!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 16, 2009Some books are eye-candy and some are How-To manuals. This book really falls in the How-To category, which surprised me because I expected it to be filled with luscious projects that I couldn't wait to duplicate. I had mixed feelings about the featured projects - though there are some lovely embellishments and some good ideas; it is more about the process of embellishment, rather than the end result itself. The style of the projects weren't all to my cup of tea but the way they were changed, enhanced and updated is what makes them interesting. I probably won't run out to recreate most of the projects (though the Lord and Lady Pillowcases and the Victoriana Cardigan are contenders) but I will definitely keep this book for the primer on applique techniques, beading, basic sewing, crochet and embroidery stitches, etc. Tons of useful information even if the final product photographed isn't what you might have chosen for yourself.
For me, that makes this a solid book - not just something to leaf through and keep on the coffee table, but something to use in the craft room, referring to for How-To advice and inspiration.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 30, 2008The market is flooded with a ton of craft books these days, but the projects rarely combine both excellent design and an inspired use of materials. Complete Embellishing really stands out because there are so many projects that tweak ho-hum things, like canvas bags, pillowcases, and sweaters, and transform them into something really special. I immediately wanted to make the Lord and Lady Pillowcases, how can you resist combining silhouettes and felt? Also, the photographs are gorgeous and the instructions are incredibly easy to follow, which is key with craft books. A must for any craft hound!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 15, 2010I found nothing I had never seen before or had tried myself in this book. Projects were very simple. This would be a decent book for a novice, but if you have experience in sewing and embellishing, I would set your sights elsewhere.
With that said, I found the How-To to be very helpful, a good quick guide if you need a reminder or brush up on your skills.
So overall, good How-To, not so good projects, and I wouldn't necessarily recommend.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 22, 2008I find a lot of the modern craft books to be more style than substance, but this one does a good job of filling both shoes. The projects are fairly simple but creative, and leave room for experimentation and adaptation. These aren't dead end projects. The photographs and layout are lovely, too. If you want to "Anthropologize" your current wardrobe using materials already in your stash, this is a great book to have in your library. The book contains adult/home projects but they are great ideas for making and repurposing kids' apparel too.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 16, 2009The book gives you step by step instructions on some useful embellishment ideas with beautiful and fun examples. It also includes patterns in the back, so that you dont have to create the shapes or designs yourself!

treasure downieReviewed in the United Kingdom on February 10, 20105.0 out of 5 stars enchanting
this book is enchanting and helpful with suggestions aplenty. the fact that
it is easy to manipulate with one hand was definitely a plus for me (other one paralised by stroke) the colours were most helpful in visualizing the end result. even if you don't use it - the visual impression stays with you.
AnnReviewed in the United Kingdom on December 1, 20123.0 out of 5 stars Good for beginner
This is a lovely visual book with sewing tecniques to assist the beginner, however I am an experienced sewer so I was looking for some less simple ideas. Evening type embellishment ideas for clothes and adornments.
I got the book at a very good price so I am pleased, I will probably pass it on to my daughter for her to start out on which cant be bad.
