Some of his puns rival those of Mr. Peabody which is hard to do.
Can these volumes come out faster? A year in between is hard to wait but Winkerbean is a dish best savored.
Well constructed book and easy to handle, articles that lead the volume are great as well, a worthy successor to volume I
This animated stroll through memory lane was my high school years.I remember reading these strips in the Washington Post when they had a comic section of four pages of comic strips from BC, Hagar, Mary Worth, Dick Tracy, For Better and Worst, and Peanuts. This strip was usually above Family Circus and Ziggy. For this critic, these strips hearken back to an age gone by...and it is a welcome change and a great break from today's newspaper strip comics that seem mostly seem unfunny and forgotten a joke of the day style like the Winkerbean strips used.
The stock of this paper is great 80 bond paper, highlighting these strip better than the old newsprint strips ever was. This second volume of Winkerbean is better than the first for many reasons. The humor still works. most of the situations can be assimilation to today's high school education system. and it is still very funny over 35 years later than its original releases.
And yet this reprint collection does dates itself slightly with the usage of items as VHS tapes, Landline phones with a cord, manual typewriters and computers that fill a room...a far cry from today's Laptops, DVDs and cell phones
For those who crave the strips of old..and there are many of you who buy strip collections, these masters filed strips are in order of how they appeared in the paper . They are reprinted fully from their print run...and is enjoyable even today. With the quality paper and the strips in tact, it is a match made in Nostalgia heaven .
Many younger readers will not get many references that is classic strip showcases. For example Funky is taking his goldfish to a movie theater playing Jaws.
Saying from the I CHONG..Critic cannot wait for volume three. I hope it comes soon
