Was super excited to get this book but waited till outside the return window to open it. Pages were reversed and cut in the wrong side from the printer and maybe up to one inch cropped from wrong side of page. Completely useless unless you're psychic and can under the beginning of each print line.

I am soaking up all the wonderful information in this book. I'm excited to have this book in my collection. I have a lot of reference books because I don't like to depend on the internet for information. Who knows if we might not have access to the internet one day! I have books on herbal medicine and books about all the animals on our homestead. The herbal books don't go into dosage and usage on animals and the animal books for the most part don't talk about herbal remedies mostly modern remedies. I love that this book combines both my love for herbal remedies and animals in one book. my only con would be that I wish there were pictures because I'm a visual person and pictures help to hold my attention. lol

We raise our animals naturlaly/organically. We had been searching for a book that would help us with our animals in such a way medically, if needed. A friend of ours, who has been doing what we're doing for decades, highly recommended this book, telling us it would become our farm "bible". After reading just a few pages of this, we quickly realized what she meant, and we have been reading from it and using it ever since. It is very clearly written, easy to understand, and a joy to use. The author gives a wonderful history of herbal medicines in a farm/livestock setting. She clearly explains how to prepare the herbs (in tinctures, poultices, etc.) for the animals. She breaks it down for the different animals as well. This book is a joy to own-- we're very pleased with our purchase.

Having so many animals for pleasure or food does lead one to adopt an attitude of vigilance towards animals health and needs. As many animals could quite easily survive in a natural environment as oppose to our mankind created environments for them, even for those of us with the best of intentions, having this book can help one place some emphasis on the animals natural/original health and needs rather than what we may think they need. We have to adapt our mankind environments more towards a natural/original environment that can sustain and benefit the animals natural instinct. So many times we try too force animals to live in our mankind environments and treat them our way when at heart, it does more damage and cruelty than good. I enjoy this book and have followed, with great success many of the treatments with our animals both great and small.

This book is great for anyone who is a homesteader/farmer that tries to stay away from conventional healing modalities. Some of the remedies would be difficult to find in my area but still a lot of information that is useful.

So far I've referenced the book for a few different things. As a general guide to potential problems on the farm, this looks like a life-saver! If I come to notice anything majorly erroneous I'll update my review.

My only warning is that I ordered this book "NEW" from Amazon, LLC. and I got a lightly used book. Not worth returning, but buyer beware.

If you keep (farm) animals and consider yourself any kind of naturalistic caretaker - this is a must have. Your weeds are now your most treasured medicine. Most valuable of all my books (and I have a whole lot, especially on natural animal health). You can't find this kind caliber of natural remedy online.

As a long time practicing herbalist (like it's my full time job/supports my family of 5 entirely) who also keeps livestock (Dairy/Meat cattle, pigs, poultry) I wanted to expand my knowledge of tending stock on a more holistic level.

While there is absolutely valuable information in here the author clearly has cultivated her practice from the western medicine mindset that everything is "dirty" & must be scrubbed clean of it's filth.

Yes keeping livestock comes with mud, poop, & such but we should be careful to think we need to cleanse our animals internally let alone ourselves.

Of course animals need wormed, fed well, they need access to land, clean water, & conditions. But again be mindful that waging war on your animals (or your) microbiome is a really good way to cause serious illnesses ESPECIALLY if you're working with ruminant animals (multiple stomachs).

All in all if you have no understanding of herbs or livestock care I wouldn't buy this book as you'll not be able to suss out what's helpful & what's genuinely harmful.

I rate this book as a means to treating your animals naturally, especially if you live in the countryside and can access many of the plants referred to.
