Larry Zafran was born and raised in Queens, NY where he tutored and taught math in public and private schools. He has a Bachelors Degree in Computer Science from Queens College where he graduated with highest honors, and has earned most of the credits toward a Masters Degree in Secondary Math Education.

He is a dedicated student of the piano, and the leader of a large and active group of board game players which focuses on abstract strategy games from Europe.

He presently lives in Cary, NC where he works as an independent math tutor, writer, and webmaster.

We got this planner for our homeschool sessions and we are pretty glad that we purchased this product. This planner is perfect size. Each line for each subject gives you 2 lines(one for Notes for the subject, and what you did in that subject). We personally think using both lines a day if needed would be a great idea. Lines are long and skinny, reminding us of college ruled paper. This planner has a lot of subjects to chose from to write what you did each day, and also lines called "Miscellaneous", "Home Eco"(Chores), "Hobbies/Electives", "Health/Hygiene", "Religion", "Physical Fitness", etc. This planner doesn't have any dates, so you can fill out your own days. It also states the days such as Day 1, Day 28, Day 30, etc so you can keep count of your days and when you did each assignment. The great thing about this planner is that it doesn't have a specific year, so if you are wanting a cheap, great planner that can be used any year, this would be the one. It's only 180 days of recording, which is around 6 months, but you can always order another one. For under $6 you are getting a great deal, and it wouldn't hurt to get 2 so you have one for the whole year round. This planner includes an attendance chart at the beginning which adds a great value to this planner. Not a lot of planners you get mention the attendance chart unless it is an actual homeschool planner. This planner lists the authors website so you could print additional pages such as extra planner worksheets, but you'd have to cross out the "Day 1" or what ever number it includes.

This planner is very thorough. We are in our 7th year of home school. This planner works great for 1 student. I've used a few planners. This is by far the best one yet. The colorful, decorative planners were too large, vague, and a waste of paper & space. The fun planners lacked structure. Other planners were too structured. This planner includes an Attendance Record. It also includes a Syllabus/Curriculum page and a Textbook/Materials page. It lists 19 different subjects, 2 lines each, plus a Miscellaneous line. It is a 180 day record book. It is not dated a specific school year.

As a first year homeschooling mom I found myself overwhelmed when it came to finding the "right" planner/log book for my children. Many of the available ready to use planners contain too many bible verses and "inspirational" quotes for our family dynamic. I did not want cute little quotes or biblical reminders, just a straight forward log book. This is exactly that. I do wish there was a just a little more room for entries, I would have rated this 5 stars had there been perhaps three lines, as opposed to two. I could have done this as a word document and saved a little bit of money, but really it saved me time and that is more important, in my opinion. keeping up with tasks and subjects could not be any easier with this type of planners... jot out what you've done next to each subject and then tally your daily total at the top. I had previously spent over fifty dollars on two separate "lesson plan" planners only to find myself alarmed and dismayed when I realized that they were nothing more than glorified calendars made to go into a three ring binder. this is what works for us.

I've been through several planners in my 7 years of homeschooling. Most are overpriced and have more than I need. Don't get me wrong - I like inspirational quotes, bible verses, menu planners, grocery lists, book lists, touching anecdotes, address books and kitchen sinks; however, I don't need them in my planners. I just need, well, a *planner*. I had given up and made my own this year out of a three-ring binder and my own printed sheets; however, it was a lot of work and it takes up a lot of space. I found these, liked what I saw, and ordered two. (One for each of my older kids. The toddler doesn't need one yet.) The price is right and there's enough room to write a bit about each day's lessons. Period. If you're a minimalist and/or pragmatist, this is the planner for you. :-)

My only one teensy little issue? I wish this were in a spiral binding. It's not a deal breaker, though, so still a 5-star rating.

I agree this is almost perfect. It's the best I have found though. I keep searching for something better and have yet to find it. It does have small lines so you have to write small. I wish there were more lines given to Language Arts as that covers a brood subject with lots to fill in and not enough space so we spill into Miscellaneous. It is the same page reproduced but if I did that myself it would be 3 times the cost to print plus having it bound makes it sturdy to last the whole year. Worth the cost for sure. Will use again next year.

This inexpensive planner has worked perfectly for us this year. As of this writing (1-10-13) the "Click to Look Inside!" shows you exactly what's in this book. Nothing more. Simplicity is what attracted me to this planner. Other planners I looked at had several intro pages for telling me why homeschooling is a good thing or how to better organize my house or plan my whole day. I just wanted a straight forward planner.

I am only homeschooling one child this year so there is more than enough room for everything I need to write down. You could certainly print this stuff from another site and create your own book. But, this planner is less than six dollars and your time is worth more than that. It might not be cost effective if you homeschool many children as I can see you would probably need a planner for each child.

All in all, I really like this planner and will buy another one next year. The only improvement I would love to see is spiral binding. But, normal binding is certainly not a deal breaker.
