I like the one recipe I have made so far from this book (just bought it yesterday). However, I've noticed that ingredients are missing from several of the recipes. For example Garlic Kale with Pine Nuts (Page 245) has no pine nuts in the ingredients, nor are they mentioned in the directions. Quite often recipes call for things to be sauted in olive oil, yet no olive oil is listed in the ingredients.

For that reason I'm giving the book 2 stars. It's mostly a cook book and with many of the recipes being wrongly printed, it can't do it's job. It looks like it was thrown together quickly and whoever did the editing, did a lousey job. That said the author seems to have a lot of knowledge and perhaps should just have been more involved in the rest of the process. Personally I think it should go back to the publishers and have all the mistakes corrected.

After my husband suffered a stroke due to hypertension, doctors advised him to change his diet and find one that helped to lower blood pressure and improve heart health. In my search for helpful books about the DASH diet, I was particularly drawn to "DASH Diet Cooking" by Deirdre Rawlings. The goal of the DASH diet is to help people lower and control blood pressure and to promote heart health. I especially like this book because it has 160 great recipes. This book has more recipes than any others on the market plus the author, a clinical nutritionist, designed them with full knowledge on how to address hypertension and cardiovascular disease. I highly recommend this book to individuals whose goal is to eat and cook healthy meals.

As a working wife and mother of 4, I have often found myself choosing "easy out" meal options that I thought were making my life easier. But since learning more about the DASH diet (and hypertension, in general) the thought off all the processed and fast foods that we have eaten makes me cringe. I had known for quite some time that it was time to make a change in my family's eating habits before it was too late but I had no idea where to start.

The Complete Idiot's Guide to DASH Diet Cooking has given me the knowledge that I needed not only to eat better, but to understand what kinds of foods work for or against my health. This book provides all the information that I needed to make informed decisions for my family and to get started on the track to healthy eating IMMEDIATELY. The included grocery list took the guess work out of making my grocery list (a great time saver when you have four kids in tow). So far, the recipes are simple to prepare which means I don't have to spend a great deal of family time preparing meals. I'm not used to using spices/seasonings that didn't include words indicating that is was some variation of "salt" or "pepper" but the recipes that I have tried so far are nothing short of amazing which is why I was so surprised when I found out that the author, Deirdre Rawlings (who is a naturopathic doctor and holistic nutritionist), created them herself.

Since changing my eating habits, I have noticed that I have more energy throughout the day and am no longer lethargic after meals. I am eating more fresh fruits and vegetables than ever and I'm excited to be working towards reaching my target weight.
I am so glad to have this book. Thank you Deirdre for helping me be a better me!

This is quite the book....Full of amazing recipies. I already consume a lot of the foods in this book but was getting bored of my own versions...This has helped me expand the possibilities of creating better meals for myself and family. Anyone who wants to enjoy foods that they thought was a no-no on their own diet or diet changes will enjoy some newfound meals and sides that can be enjoyed again. There is a high nutrition factor in this book and im always looking for more nutrient dense foods to enjoy. Im going to be giving birth soon and I am very confident that this book will give me the guidelines to stay healthy for me and baby, brestfeeding and able to help me loose some weight. I highly recommend this book or any books by this author!!!

Pleased with the book. At first I found it complicated but once I started using on a daily basis it got really easy to draw full daily plans that I enjoyed.

The results showed almost immediately. I had a goal that required dropping 15 lbs and gettingmy Blood Pressure below 120/80 (Canada) and I now average 111/66 which is a really satisfying result. This took just 5 weeks from a 137/85. But I really stuck to the book.

I would like to see the meals broken down into nutritional values though. I think that way and could really use the info.

So all in all folks... IT WORKS!!!

I found this book after hearing about DASH Diet. It is very easy to read and understand, with lots of helpful information on blood pressure, cholosteral, healthy eating habits, etc. It even offers menus and food suggestions, exercise and so much more. Anyone wanting to improve their health should read this and find out more about DASH diet. All of the ingredients can be found at your local Publix or Kroger, so you do not have to go on a scavenger hunt to find healthy options. Highly recommended!
