No group, no matter the size - and officially organized or not, should ever meet together without at least one member having a copy of Robert's Rules OR this very acceptable book of Idiot's Guide! We belong to a great number of groups and over the years there have been enough, ahem, healthy arguments clearly settled when this useful guide comes to have the final say. It's not tedious to wield the stuffy-and-often-not-understood original versions; so this doable book comes to the rescue to satisfy all folks from all walks of life! A handy diplomat, that's what it is!

This is a great reference for navigating through "Robert's Rules". If you belong to a large organization, procedure is necessary in order to avoid chaos. And, if you are new to an organization which uses "R.R." you may feel a little intimidated by the process, and therefore be less likely to participate in the process. The success of any organization depends upon participation by its members. Don't be somebody who wants to participate, but is reluctant.
Also, these rules give insights as to how city and county council meetings are conducted as "Robert's Rules" are very similar to government proceedings. (the key word is similar).
"Complete Idiot's..." a high rating because it makes a seemingly complicated process of protocols and conduct easy to understand. It helps to give power to those who might otherwise remain silent.

I've picked up the actual Robert's Rules, and dropped it. No way.
But this one explains to normal people how to run a meeting, and you really do see the brilliance and fairness in it. Probably most meetings don't follow the rules because Robert didn't seem to be much of a writer. I highly recommend *this edition.
It's the kind of thing you will want to highlight and annotate, and I thought after a while I should have bought a paper version instead a kindle book. But then I found a great application for the kindle that organizes and prints your highlights and notes: Clipper at [...] . You do need to get your text file to your computer first, but then, wow. It makes reference books kindle-ready.

I was never a big fan of rules -- and I've had decades to warm to them, to little effect. But the principles behind Robert's Rules are sound, and by explaining the WHY of Robert's Rules, this book makes it much easier to keep track of the Rules themselves!
This book, and The Rules of Parliamentary Procedure, THIRD Edition, Alice Sturgis et al, brought me up to speed fairly quickly, and now I can chair committee meetings with confidence!
For those of us who work in government, the chapter in Sturgis -- which was dropped from the Fourth edition! -- on the special rules that apply to governmental bodies is a necessary supplement. Check it out at your local library!

This is worthwhile if you have little experience with the Robert's Rules of Order for running meetings, but the complete Robert rules of Order 11th edition is what you want if you need the whole, most current rules that apply to running a meeting for any type of organization. Nice little cheat sheet, if you will, for those who need a place to get started.

This is a very good book with lots of interesting examples of RONR being used in a practical sense. The pages were all in great condition and almost like new.

Handling a meeting

Easy to read & understand, much easier than the original and other similar books. Concise ways to run a meeting, needed this information as I have had to deal with a group of idiots who have tried to do things their way in total contrast to the right way.
