I highly recommend this extremely useful and practical book. It's the best jazz guitar book I have ever seen. Jody Fisher is an accomplished teacher. The Mickey Baker jazz guitar book is also useful, but Jody Fisher's book is much better overall. I am currently working out of both books. I am a very experienced rock guitarist and that really helps. I wouldn't want to be just starting out on guitar and trying to use either of these books.
Buy this book and be prepared to work hard and have a ball doing it.
with in your history of study; There is always room to learn other approaches to guitar in your music career whether your teaching or performing . I highly recommend this book for students who wish to study the jazz genre for the first time!
No one book can cover everything about jazz improvisation but this is a great one for providing the fundamentals.
The best comprehensive treatment of jazz theory as played on the guitar you will find. I'm so glad that I came across this book.
I would recommend this to anyone interested in understanding jazz guitar better.
By the way, by beginner I mean that, while I have played chords and such since junior high school, I just recently started reading music, studying the basics of music theory, and going back to basics generally to learn good habits and techniques and start developing a working knowledge of jazz.
Marvelous book, tells me in plain English what I need to learn and what to practice and why. Relates the work to what the professional do.
