Product description

Hoover Hives are known for their beautiful and skillfully crafted beehives. Every exterior hive part that may encounter rain or snow has been built with Fir wood and has been coated in 100% natural beeswax to help weather the elements. We’ve thoughtfully chosen to use Fir wood over the traditional Pine because Fir has a tighter knit grain-flow within the wood than Pine does. This makes our exterior parts far more durable and less likely to shrink, expand, warp, or twist from the rain than Pine would. Once we’ve cut the wood, we dip each part into a pool of natural beeswax. We allow the beeswax to be soaked into the hive parts. This not only protects the wood, but is also what gives our hives their natural golden honey lustrous allure. The delicate details of our durable dovetails were designed to hold together for years to come and create a joint that will stay perfectly square. After months of testing, we decided to have our frames come from the forests of New Zealand Pine. We’ve chosen this wood because it handles the meticulous cuts that are necessary for the grooves in our frames better than Fir handled it. This hive kit comes with two different types of CellTech foundations that have both been dipped in 100% beeswax to encourage your bees to quickly accept their new home and make an even layer of comb. The first type of foundation is a black food grade foundation made for the deep brood frames. The second type is a natural honey colored foundation made for the medium super frames. This kit also includes a Telescoping Top Cover that has been capped with galvanized steel to resist rust. The solid bottom board will reroute the wind chill and help keep your bees well insulated during cooler months. The Inner Cover has been and has an multipurpose oval opening cut out of the middle. Hoover Hives 10 frame hive parts use dimensions that are consistent with the industry standard and are interchangeable with all other Langstroth 10 frame beehives.

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent hive for price
By Michi K on June 8, 2019
The hive is beautiful, love the darker natural wood look. For the most part it fit together easily. I appreciate that they cut true dovetails. The carved bee is aesthetically pleasing as well. I pre drilled the holes for the nails. I do this with all my hives. So I was upset that even though I pre drilled one nail hit a knot and split the wood. See picture. It only happened on one so it’s not horrible. I filled it with wood glue to hopefully keep the crack from growing. The other issues I had was it appears that someone wrote on the wood. Since paint won’t stick on waxed wood I am now stuck with this mark, see pick. I can’t tell if the wood was truly dipped or if it was just painted with wax. It also seems they painted the inner cover, this is not necessary, hope the bees don’t mind. Also some damage to the inside of one hive box and one super. The super is not as bad. A shin of wood was separating and I had to cut it with a blade so it would left up the rest of the way and remove a larger piece of wood. The hive has a ugly knot right where the frames sit. This will be a pain while sliding frames. I put metal covers on the frame rest so fortunately I can live with these problems. The frames seem to be of good material, I have not assembled them yet. Will update review after I do. The foundation is thinner than the right cell I am used to but I think I may like that more. Overall for $169 it is still a good value. It also took over a month for me to receive it after I placed my order.

1.0 out of 5 stars Craftmanship and quality of wood is terrible!
By j.o'hanlon on June 9, 2020
Do not buy this product! I bought this product based on my research which relied heavily on reviews. Super disappointed! Throughout the entire assembly I continued to find the so called "quality wood" infested with termite damage! Should be labeled "termite farm". Hard to believe what their calling quality and how did all these pieces pass their inspection before shipping out. Also the inner lid does not fit and since it comes assembled, there's nothing to do about it. I guess what bothers me even more is that when I emailed the company they said they would take care of the problem. That's the last I had heard from them and I have bees coming in less than a week! Good luck with customer service follow up as they have no phone number. Meanwhile I'm left with the termite farm.
Continuation of story. ...
The company finally got back to me by email, again they will not reply by phone and not very prompt I might add. They stated that the pictures I had sent them did not accurately represent their quality and assured me better quality. I wanting to trust in someone's word, order more hive boxes based on their statement, but once again was very disappointed with more of the same quality issues as before. I reached out to them to try to resolve the problem and their response was jaw dropping! They told me if I didn't like the product, not to order it again!
Seriously.... I would not have bought more but based on what they assured me I did, and this is how their "customer service", treats me? I strongly recommend buying from someone else. I will also be adding more pictures of their "quality" hive box kit.
