This book really covers it all, for a first time coffee shop owner it is excellent. It does need some updates though as for example it doesn't cover social media in the marketing chapter. Could have perhaps more info on stock and accounting software, but overall it definitely is required reading!

I purchased this for my brother as he was anticipating opening a coffee house. He found this very informative in-depth as well as general information. The next step is to write a good business plan and to get a small loan from a bank to get started. This was well-written lighthearted was practical do's and don'ts and will help guide him towards his dream of being a coffee house owner.

I liked this book for several reasons. First, I think it does a good job of showing the daily routine of owning a coffee shop. As a current small business owner, sometimes such daily trifles are overlooked when in the "dreaming" phase of starting a business. Second, it answers a lot of questions that you simply wouldn't know if you've never opened a coffee shop before. Third, I liked the tone of the authors; they were encouraging, not condescending. Opening a coffee shop can certainly be done, and you feel empowered after reading the book.
In my case, their honestly regarding the hard work involved with running a coffee shop made me realize it wasn't for me right now. The amount of constant cleaning is just ridiculous. I feel like there are other businesses out there that offer better work/life balance and money.

This is a good starter book if you are thinking about getting into the coffee biz. In a nutshell this book will give you the nuts and bolts of what you need to think about but you will need more in-depth research and reading to get started. If you have already seriously started thinking about this biz I would not recommend this book. This is for the novice that just stuck his/her toe in the water for the first time.

This book is just what I needed. Everything that was advertised about the book was fulfilled completely. It is well organized and full of important and pertinent information for the person thinking about opening and managing a coffee bar. I would recommend this book to anyone who has the desire to open a coffee bar and doesn't have any idea where to start or what is needed.

Pretty basic common sense. Nothing really new revealed but it does give you a chance to think about some things.

This is an amazing book. It has been very informative. I'm not much of a reader, but this book has kept my attention, believe it or not. I keep going back and rereading sections. it has been an interesting read, not in a bad way at all!

This is a must for anyone who plans to open a coffee bar or shop. It not only provides all the necessary information for menu, location, prepration of specialty coffee drinks, everything you need to know about running a business is included. The descriptions of employee training manual and employee handbook, how to hire and fire, as well as too many vital things to mention, have me reading it again and again. This book will be a useful tool for months (years) in the future.

Superbuch für den Einstieg
Reviewed in Germany on June 29, 2007Verified Purchase
Insgesamt ein solides Einführungsbuch, was fast jeden Aspekt grundsätzlich behandelt.
