Keep in mind that these are not EC artistic masterpieces. For example the first few issues contain several slightly-adapted jungle girl stories from Farrell's '40s "Seven Seas" comics and such. Some of the story lines are pretty lame. But there are some classics in there. Especially for the Eerie Pub collector. Gored-up versions of many of these tales appeared in Eerie Pubs during the mid to late 1960s. It is VERY fun to see the original, color appearances of "There's Peril In Perfection", "Beasts of the Bog", "Corpses of the Jury", "The Spiteful Spirit", "Ghoul's Bride" and "Killer Lady" in all of their original glory.
Value-wise, let us compare this book to PS Artbooks' Avon horror comics collection, "Strange Fantasy" Vol. 1. I love PS Artbooks and I own many of their wonderful classic '50s horror volumes. PS's "Strange Fantasy" Vol. 1 retails at $59.99, measures 10" x 7"and features SF #1-7, total page count 252. At the retail price of $29.99, IDW's "Voodoo" Vol. 1 measures 11 1/4" x 8 3/4", contains issues 1-6 and has a total page count of 192 pages. Cost-factor aside, my old eyes much prefer the larger pages of the Voodoo book. And I also believe it's a better value for the buck.
As I said, don't buy "The Complete Voodoo Volume 1" expecting 100% overly-literate storytelling, twist endings and EC-quality art. The stories and art will get better as the series progresses. At Amazon's price, I'm finally going to own the complete run of Voodoo for less than $4 per funnybook! Thank you, Mr. Howlett, Mr. Yoe and IDW!!! Bring on Volumes 2 and 3, and Haunted Thrills as well!
