Trigger warning: this book deals with all kinds of child abuse. Knowing that, I was reluctant at first to read it. But Shayne handled it so very well that I'm glad I didn't resist. I just waited until I knew I was in a healthy, safe place. Abuse features strongly in the book, but it is not biggest part of the book. There is so much hope and healing.
Other reviewers have written about the emotional roller coaster, the fact that this isn't one of Shayne's usual erotic books. They are right. But they (and Shayne herself) describe this book as a straight romance. I disagree. It is so much more! It is about Lizzy's relationship with herself, her family (adopted and blood), and the world at large.
I've loved Shayne McClendon's books since I friend got me hooked earlier this year. Completely Wrecked is the novel that pushed her from my "borrow and read all titles" to "must own all titles" list.
Sorry if this reads a little bland, but I don't do spoilers. Definitely one of those books you have to finish in one sitting.
Shayne writes characters you'd like to sit and talk with. At least I would. They are multi-dimensional and well written. This book is not her normal Survival Erotica, but stands so well as written that it doesn't have to be.
Lizzy is a dynamic character, a care-taker who doesn't see the value of herself. Dylan is broken, by life and circumstance. Read the story, see how they grow, love, and overcome the toxic drama life gave them. You'll thank yourself for reading it. Trust me.
