About the Author
Erin Nicholas is the author of sexy contemporary romances. Her stories have been described as toe-curling, enchanting, steamy and fun. She loves to write about reluctant heroes, imperfect heroines and happily ever afters. She lives in the Midwest with her husband who only wants to read the sex scenes in her books, her kids who will never read the sex scenes in her books, and family and friends who say they're shocked by the sex scenes in her books (yeah, right!).

Ironically, even though they were basically total opposites, I connected with both characters on a deep level. Kiera has a tremendous need to be left alone in her own little world, and Zach is a a fixer – both traits (and things people perceive as flaws) which I closely identify with. As someone who prefers to stay in her own personal bubble, I very much *got* Kiera – to an almost uncomfortable-at-times level, to be totally honest. Beyond the seriousness of 'bubbles', Kiera was a really fun character. Her unashamed love of her game, and her confidence in who she is was incredible and I was so pleased that she didn't change herself in order to get and keep the hot boy. I loved that they changed and grew together. My heart flat broke for Zach as we got to know him. I know he was overbearing and his methods weren't the best, but as a fixer by nature myself, I very much understood that he was coming from a place of love and I spent most of the book just wanting to hug him. Even if his way of showing his love wasn't necessarily the healthiest, it was real and it was visceral and I loved it. I loved how protective he was of his sister and how much he loved all of his family.
I loved the accurate geekiness, the fact that Zach used Kiera as an interpreter and that he was her 'therapy puppy' as he treated people at the convention, that both characters had flaws and it wasn't one person needing to be 'fixed' but both needing to find insight into their own issues, and that there was a ton of emotion in this book without there being over-the-top-eye-roll-worthy drama. There was more problem solving than anger/fighting, and I really enjoyed that. As is her forte, Erin Nicholas has written a humorous, sweet, steamy, and emotional novel and I cannot wait for the next book in this series.
I won a paperback arc of this book in a contest and then bought an e-copy because I enjoyed it so much. I was under absolutely no obligation to write this review.
Kiera is a Graphic Designer who has helped in the creation of the new best selling online video game and is content to stay in her room gaming and making improvements on her video game. She has been hurt badly in the past, but feels close to those in the online gaming arena. Zach is an EMT who has a bit of a Savior complex, even though he doesn't see it himself. He sees himself as someone who always wants to help people.
They meet at a Comic Con Convention when the roof caves in and Zachs get dispatched to the scene to help out the injured. He is going from one injured person to the other setting bones, calling for help to get people to the hospital when he sees Kiera trapped by her skirt under a beam and cannot get free. He helps her and then goes to help her two friends who need medical attention. He keeps her by him while attending to others so she can help him talk to the wounded who are, unbeknownst to him, role playing characters in her video game.
Zach and Kiera each have issue from their pasts and are total opposites. Kiera loves role playing in the video world and has made it her goal to stay away from anyone who has no interest in them. Zach is a man who has an aversion to video games, especially since his sister is addicted to them and would rather stay cooped up in her room than deal with the real world.
This is a very enjoyable contemporary romance about a gamer who is happy in her gaming world, but keeps her friends at a distance, and an all around sweet guy who wants nothing but to bring his family together again.
I really enjoyed this book and look forward to the next book in this series by Erin Nicholas.
There were a few things I didn't like, though. The book was pretty long and there weren't too many breaks in the chapters so I had a hard time when I had to stop reading because I wanted to see what happened next, but I was reading it at work and had to go back after lunch. Also, the book was long and leisurely, but the ending came up so fast.
The hero uses the f-bomb. A lot. And he used it during a love scene. The beautiful love that Kiera and Zach had for each other shouldn't have included him saying "I want to f*** you," but something to match their love.
