Initially this device caused image freezing several times a minute. I tried it using the S-Video output and then I also tried the composite output of JVC VHS tape player and the results were just the same either way.

Another strange anomaly was that the VCR blue screen/start screen (no video tape yet playing) was rolling constantly until the tape would start playing. I am using brand new cables that I ordered when I purchased this device. Interestingly, I did try replacing the composite cables between this device and the flatscreen TV and that cable did not have the screen rolling effect, but the freezing did not go away.

When I removed this converter from the signal chain and connected my VCR's composite output directly to the TV, I got proper playback without any of the afore mentioned problems.

I tried changing settings on this converter. I tried changing output settings on the JVC VCR and the Vizio flatscreen TV, but nothing seemed to address the cause of the above problems. Finally, I got to a point where I turned off the "video stabilization" setting on the JVC VCR and that did seem to reduce the occurrence of the freezing. The sequence in which I turn on the devices seems to have an effect on the freezing issue.

The audio does not get connected to this device and as a result, there was no problems with audio. The problems were solely created in the video when this device was in the signal chain. At this time I cannot confirm the exact cause of these problems, but I am getting a very good picture from the VCR.

Did what it was supposed to, but the colors came out muted & dark. Could adjust the monitor settings, but then everything else ended up washed out & too bright.

However, arranging a return of the item was easy & smooth.

So, if you aren't planning to have something else attached, or your TV/Monitor keeps separate settings for each input (mine doesn't,) then this will work great for you.

My first impressions are very positive; the unit works as advertised taking a standard svideo input (in this case from an Amiga CD32 console) and converts it to a component output of roughly equal quality to the original signal. I haven't the equipment for lag testing but given that there is no up scaling involved I suspect there isn't any lag to speak of.

Overall I'm pleased with this purchase.

I bought this because I have several S-VHS VCR's and Camcorders and I want to continue using them with my new TV. I was very pleased with the quality and simplicity of this converter not to mention the quality of the picture that was displayed. This converter was a bit pricey but well worth the money!
