Biografía del autor

MARY McKENNA SIDDALS is the author of several picture books for the very young, including Millions of Snowflakes. In addition, she has written dozens of children’s stories, articles, poems, and activities appearing in a variety of magazines. A former teacher, she lives in British Columbia, Canada, where she enjoys tending to her own batch of Compost Stew.
 
ASHLEY WOLFF is the author and/or illustrator of more than sixty children’s books, including Baby Beluga; I Love My Mommy Because; I Love My Daddy Because; Mama’s Milk; Stella and Roy Go Camping; I Call My Grandma Nana; I Call My Grandpa Papa; When Lucy Goes Out Walking; and the beloved Miss Bindergarten series. Ashley wrangles thousands of red wriggler compost worms in her San Francisco backyard garden. She grows flowers, vegetables, and an amazingly prolific persimmon tree.

Mary McKenna Siddals is the author of a variety of picture books, including the perennial favorite MILLIONS OF SNOWFLAKES, the groundbreaking COMPOST STEW, and the joyous anthem for outdoor play, BRINGING THE OUTSIDE IN. A former teacher, she lives in Canada, where she enjoys being close to nature and spending time with her family, as well as tending to her own batch of Compost Stew.

    Adore this book! We started composting this year and I wanted a book to help get my child excited about it and this was a great hit. I learned some things from it as well! I loved the alphabet format and the way it discusses composting as making a stew! Definitely recommend!

    I read this book to a couple of the preschool and pre-K classes at a local school. The kids loved the story line and the pictures. I was able to get the kids to discuss more than just the words in the book, but also what the pictures meant. This was an introduction to the school-wide composting campaign that has been implemented. Great book to share with the little ones (and grownups, too).

    This is a simple, yet very well written alphabet book packed with tons of information about composting. My students and I have just started composting at our school, and this was one of our sources. I did not rely on this exclusively, of course, but used it as a starting point. They have returned to it several times this year, and will be reading it to the younger students. This should definitely be in one of your classroom library baskets.

    Compost Stew is now tops on my five-star list of alphabet books for kids!

    The combination of author and illustrator is superb and will no doubt entertain and educate the youngest of readers. Teaching our children about composting is so important for the future of planet Earth. I highly recommend this book as a beginner guide to introduce children to composting as a way of turning trash into treasure.

    Children of all ages - yes, Adult, this means you - will appreciate this beauty of an ABC book.

    Purchased this for my 5-year-old grandson plus 2 additional copies for our Creation Care Council at Church. Both my grandsons (the 11 year old thought it was cool too) loved it; and the Chair of our Council thought it was a great addition to our bookshelf for "kids of all ages." This, and the other books I purchased with it are a great way to get kids thinking about and involved in preserving our planet.

    I received a copy of this to review on my green living blog and loved it so much that I bought a second copy to give to my son's kindergarten teacher. She had borrowed our copy twice to read to her classes and was thrilled to have her own copy. The author was even kind enough to send me signature plates to put in the books!

    I highly recommend purchasing this book for children of any age. The lovely sing-song reading is fun and the illustrations are simply perfect!
