Product Description

The 5-2-1 Compressor Saver Starting up is the hardest time in the life of any type of electrical equipment. Ever notice that light bulbs almost always burn out when you first turn them on and not while they are on? This is due to the huge current that rushes in when a switch is thrown and power is first applied. Your air conditioner uses anywhere from 5 to 10 times more power on start-up than it does while running. With this burst of power comes a surge of heat that accompanies the electrical current. This heat damages the compressor, the terminals, the windings and run capacitor - all vital components of your air conditioner. The 5-2-1 Compressor Saver® protects these components by significantly reducing the amount of time it takes for your compressor to start - in some cases up to 50%. This means your air conditioner and compressor will bear ½ the stress, strain and heat each and every time it starts. Considering that your air conditioner may start up more than 6,000 times in a single cooling season, the positive impact that the 5-2-1 Compressor Saver® has on your air conditioner is significant. Before you replace your air conditioner, try adding a 5-2-1 Compressor Saver®. The 5-2-1 Compressor Saver® might save you from having to outlay thousands of dollars to buy a new air conditioner or compressor. At a fraction of the cost, installing the 5-2-1 Compressor Saver® is a wise investment

For some reason I don't completely understand, my air conditioning condensing unit (the one outside) got to where it did not want to start. Sometimes it would trip the breaker, and it sounded just horrible when trying to start. It would make a loud clanking sound and I would expect to see parts come flying out of it every time. It is hard to imagine it would make a sound like that, and then start and run fairly normal. So, it was the hot part of the summer and I was afraid it was going to quit any day. That would have been devastating.

I have known there was a thing called a "compressor hard start kit" for years. I had never seen one and did not know exactly what they did. But in fear of losing my condensing units compressor in the hot, hot Texas summer, I decided to try one out. So I ordered this CSR U2. I came in a couple days, and I immediately set out to install it. The instructions were good enough for me to get it installed by my self. It looks to be a large capacitor and some type of switch or something. I did not need to cut any wires as all the wires came with 1/4 inch female spade connectors. They just slide onto the existing capacitor, etc. To be honest, I was not sure I had it installed correctly until I turned the power back on and tried it. You would not believe the difference it made. Now the compressor sounds completely normal when starting. My air conditioner lasted through the rest of the summer and I have forgotten about needing to replace my system. I have run it this spring on a couple hot days and it is still working fine.

I would highly recommend this product. And if you are handy at all, you can likely install it your self. I have no doubt it saved my compressor from premature failure. I'm keeping this hard start kit, and it is going on my next A/C condensing unit.

So there you have it. If you found my review useful, please let me know.
Regards,
Scott A.

This worked as needed and got another season out of my dying condenser unit. My compressor was on it's last leg and it needed a little extra boost to get started. It got us through the season. With the addition of this, I had no more problems and the air ran great. I can't say how long the compressor would have lasted since I replaced it prior to failing completely.

Hopefully I never need to buy another one of these, but if I do, I'd do this again.

I hired an HVAC guy to come over and inspect the condenser and evap coils. He said I needed a hard start kit, he hooked it up and it did start easier and was quieter however it would have cost me 250.00 and I said take it off. So I purchased one from here and hooked it up myself following the easy directions. Be advised you must take other precautions when installing this product. I had to drill my own holes as the existing ones wouldn't work. It works great. I am not an HVAC person, but I have a very good knowledge of power and how to discharge it properly.

I recently had my 2 year old Air Conditioner gone over/cleaned....some preventative maintenance to make sure everything was up to snuff. When I was paying the service rep, he mentioned that for $331 they could install a "hard start" modification that he said would help with wear&tear on the compressor. Having a background in electronics, I asked him..."a bigger capacitor, right?" He said yes, so I declined the modification. I instantly went on line and eventually found the 5-2-1 Compressor Saver....cost? $37.00! I have a 48k BTU/sear 16 4 ton Carrier unit.

Installation: schematically and hooking up the wiring was a piece of cake....the hardest part was mounting the capacitor. The mounting area had several slits, and holes...but finding a pair that matched size wise, and allowed for a proper mounting position that would be safe and secure was a real pain. So I ended up cutting (2) inch long X 1/8th inch wide slits wide enough apart to accommodate the capacitor size, and allow me to use a "worm drive" hose clamp... allowing it to wrap around the cap, and facilitate tightening to secure it to the mounting plate. I first wrapped the capacitor with Silicone Self Fusing Tape, to insulate and cushion it from the metal clamp. I mounted perfectly!

Results: Wow, could actually hear the difference with the start-up....AND...the shut-off of the compressor. Which tells me that those cycles are not exposing the compressor starting coils to long and labored transitions....and a bonus is that it actually uses less electricity in the long run. I highly recommend this product and modification. Well worth the modest cost and hassle in mounting it.

reality is that this product will
- extend compressor motor life by reducing inflow current and heat
- reduce voltage variation at startup in your house
- potentially start a hard to start compressor if it's just slightly off nominal... this is my case... my compressor wouldn't start, got one of these, put it on, started right up... total time expended about 15 minutes

it's important to note that this is actually a smart preventative thing, not a hail mary to keep your compressor running ... I took a shot and got lucky so maybe I replace my compressor next year instead of this year....

if you are gonna get one, get it now...

for sceptics, this capacitor design is frequently used in modern premium compressor designs so it's a fully endorsed design and you can install it with confidence

enjoy
