About the Author

I worked alongside the military and civilian intelligence community for well over 20 years - my unique and detailed insight into the dark side of the British establishment allows me to weave this context into my stories. This genre is what I know - I am very much the real deal. Praise from Derek's readers: "This writer is gifted, not talented, but gifted...I experienced emotions I have never experienced before while reading a book - my body tensed, my heart raced and my pulse soared time and again." "Derek Keyte has an absolute talent to which I am now a fan." "Knowledgeable, concise, and assured writing from a debut novelist....we may well be looking at a future master." "Keyte has crafted a modern day masterpiece in the style of Gerald Seymour with a touch of early Clancy thrown in." Whilst all of my work is fiction and is based on my imagination and open source research, my background allows me to write the genre with a sense of pure authenticity, whilst at the same time ensuring that I meet my obligations under the Official Secrets Act.

Easy read. Story moved along at a good pace and was easy to follow. Some events were described several times using a different character's perspective...really helped draw a complete picture.

I really liked Compromised. It hooked me from the outset and I'm glad I stuck with it. I'd certainly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a pacy book and it's a rare and added bonus that it's set on the British side of the pond for once.

So, why aren't I giving it 5 stars?

The plot was OK (fairly straightforward and linear), the characters not particularly well developed and, worst of all, the viewpoint kept swapping around. If I had to pass a single message on to Derek Keyte, it'd be to decide whose eyes you're seeing through and stick with it. If you must chop and change, do it in section or chapter breaks so that it's clear. It made me dizzy at times, I confess.

That said, it's fairly un-put-down-able. Derek, do the book a favour and rewrite it to take out that choppiness. Add in a bit of background flavour to the characters and I think you've got a decent book there (for its genre). I've given you 4 stars rather than 3 (it was borderline for me) in the hope that you'll take this advice.

I enjoyed this book - it gave a realistic insight into the workings of the British military and civilian intelligence community - some books are quite unbelievable but I thought this was okay - the characters could have been developed a bit more.

I read only a few pages. English is not my mother tongue, but to me it's clear this writer cannot write. His style surpasses utter clumsiness. He should perhaps write in Mandarin so that we do not see another of his creations.

I found Compromised a difficult book to read, mainly because of the extreme violence in it. But it moved at a good pace, the plot was easy to follow and a lot of the action rang true in a way. But the characters were flat and some stereotyped and they had little back-story. And, although I understood why the point of view changed, often rapidly, from one character to another, it was sometimes confusing. That being said, I think, perhaps, that this novel would really appeal to someone from a military background.
