Not functional, not worth the effort.

I put this into the video card slot as suggested by pins, no power. I then put it into my PCI slot. It "worked"....sort of. I booted the desktop and got a 00 output. I then looked up the code and got "Control given to boot loader". Okay. I expected "No errors" but whatever. I then removed my RAM and got Fb. I looked up the code and got "Next, trying to detect Flash ROM"....What does that have to do with what I did? I expected "RAM not found or bad ram card in slot x". I had to look up the beep codes made by the desktop itself. This device is worthless. You look at a flowchart at the beginning of the book and it splits a box into options, with no idea what direction to take. Such as a box that only says "According to the error code table"..,..read that again. That is not a typo. That is the entirety of the box in the debugging flowchart. Like I said, this device, this book, is completely worthless. It even has solder points for a speaker that is not soldered in. It didn't even finish the manufacturing process! WTF! In the manual, the last page is titled "Introduce of run LEDS". If anything, it should be corrected to "Introduction of Run LED's" and should be placed where the introductions go; at the beginning. Of the 31 page manual, the only pages that are of any use are pages 24-27 "Beep Codes". This card does not have a speaker. A simple google search for beep codes will be more useful than this board. In the error output table, it has Hex, Award, AMI, Phoenix4.0" columns. All the rows have hex values, but there are columns which do not have awards, AMI, phoenix or some combonation. An example is h92 which does not have award information, ami information and the phoenix information states "Jump to UserPatch2"....whatever that means. or h72 which only has a phoenix value of "Check for configuration errors". Again, whatever that means. h73-h75 are missing. So are h77-h7b. I understand that it was made in China but it should have been made by someone who cared about quality, as well as the local language of the country it would go to. No QA team in this, huh?

It'd be nice if the instructions included a list of diagnostic codes...

While this card actually did help me track down the issue that my mobo was having, it would have been nice if the manual had some sort of list of codes... a short list of commonly encountered codes, at the very least. Fortunately, a quick google search of '<code> + motherboard diagnostic code' got me the info that I needed.

This card DOES go into a PCI port despite being smaller than one. The error codes in the little booklet are generic codes that may have been used by the big motherboard manufacturers at one time, but your best bet is to find a manual for your specific motherboard on-line. Most motherboard manuals do have a chapter for POST codes towards the back. It's important to note that this card displays whatever POST code is sent to it, so you can be assured that the error code displayed is definitely from your motherboard rather than a pre-programmed code from the card itself, so get a copy of your motherboard manual!

I knew to plug it in to a PCI slot, and know you can take the extra step of looking codes up online, but this product would benefit greatly from a CD with both instructions and codes being included. Can't recommend except for techies.

Works great,mine came with a users manual that had the codes listed in them. A very helpful diagnostic tool, had a desktop that would not boot,told me I had a memory problem,reseated the sticks, booted like a champ.....the only downfall is the display should be on the up side of the card, not down...had to use a pocket mirror to read it, but hey, what do you want for $3.
