To those who saw no gain over stock coolers... You mounted it incorrectly. Sorry. Pick something easy to use, like Arctic Silver MX-2 or MX-4, and place a pea sized glob on the middle of the cpu. Yes, a pea (a small pea). Not a grain of rice, not a grain of sand, a pea. Then simply mount the fan and apply as much pressure as you feel comfortable applying; some thermal paste will squeeze out from underneath the cooler, and thats fine. Using this method you will have excellent contact 95% of the time, as opposed to a much slimmer chance with the "rice grain" camp. Sure, its 0.30223212312% less efficient at transferring heat to use a pea rather than a rice grain. Cool. But its easier and nearly fool proof to use a pea. So use a pea.
The 120W rating is a bit over exaggerated. I'll give them points for the design, but it's probably better as a <65w HSF setup. Looking at the bottom of the HSF combo where the copper heatsink runs through the injection molded aluminum baseplate, it's obvious that the two halves are not even flat with one another and the pipe that runs through the middle sticks out. Putting HSF combo onto my CPU, I could rock it back and forth in about 1/4 of a mm. Iiterally >1/2 of the surface area of the base plate would be out of contact with the CPU and would require some serious TIM (Thermal Interface Material) to transfer heat. Presenting the cooler on a sheet of glass would give a better look at the differences between the surfaces of the bottom of this HSF combo.
After 4h30m of lapping, I finally got it flat and mirror-like. It took nearly 3hrs of wet sanding on 400 grit sandpaper before I could move on to successively finer grits (800,1000, 1500, 2000). After it was flat, only an hour of lapping, on wet sandpaper on a sheet of glass, was needed to get at a near mirror like shine.
Performance wise, after lapping, increased by a few degrees and got me to the TDP I needed to run my i7-2600s under full load and under 60C. I feel that the QA is very lacking in this cooler compared to the CNPS10x. It was probably an afterthought for Zalman since this design is to keep your CPU from becoming toast vs keeping the system extremely cool.
Hitting the 120W TDP is a pipe dream, your CPU will be throttled if you try. It can barely keep up at 65W TDP rated CPUs, but it is the smallest/shortest/highest performing combination available on the market for an NSC-800, period, but there's room for improvement.

This smaller profile cooler works great! I do a lot of gaming and my cpu rarely goes higher than 34 degrees Celsius even in demanding in-game scenarios. It is relatively quiet. Read morePublished 1 day ago by J. Wilson
I installed it and haven't heard it yet. So far so good. -7/18/2016Published 6 days ago by Samuel Carter
As you can see the am3+ brackets have a rectangle size. The all-in-one convenient clip( as called in the box) doesn't fit at all, not even one hole matches. Read morePublished 7 days ago by Amazon Customer
Pros: Amazing cooler. Great surface area quality fan, low noise , high cfm
cons. Fan installation mount sucks!! No fun to install. Read more
I've got two of these, with the youngest being over a year old now. They provide great cooling if your computer is space constrained and it'll look good doing it. Read morePublished 10 days ago by Lazere
First one came and the fan didn't work at all. Did a replacement and the new one came with the bar that holds the heat sink to the board wedged and bent. Read morePublished 16 days ago by Gmork
