I got astoundingly good temps on my dad's FX 4100 (computer was a Christmas gift). From stock cooler to this one I dropped a few degrees idle and close to 10 C at full load. I think a part of that is that this jets the hot air right out the back of the case instead of blowing it everywhere, so it is likely the temp inside the case was significantly lower as well. For sub-20, this is an amazing performer.

To those who saw no gain over stock coolers... You mounted it incorrectly. Sorry. Pick something easy to use, like Arctic Silver MX-2 or MX-4, and place a pea sized glob on the middle of the cpu. Yes, a pea (a small pea). Not a grain of rice, not a grain of sand, a pea. Then simply mount the fan and apply as much pressure as you feel comfortable applying; some thermal paste will squeeze out from underneath the cooler, and thats fine. Using this method you will have excellent contact 95% of the time, as opposed to a much slimmer chance with the "rice grain" camp. Sure, its 0.30223212312% less efficient at transferring heat to use a pea rather than a rice grain. Cool. But its easier and nearly fool proof to use a pea. So use a pea.

Don't let anyone tell you that it isn't good enough for an FX-8350. I planted this fan on mine with a little IC Diamond thermal paste and my average core temp is about 15ºC at idle and has never reached above 45ºC, even after a few hours of Prime95. The price:performance ratio is great here. It is the loudest fan in my system, but I have to listen to hear it. It isn't loud by any means at idle and isn't terrible under load either. I recommend

First off, the design is solid, and it's rated at 120W. Quite amazing for a small HSF combo that looks like it should be used for a generic reference design AGP video card (remember those?). However, this is a CPU Fan!

The 120W rating is a bit over exaggerated. I'll give them points for the design, but it's probably better as a <65w HSF setup. Looking at the bottom of the HSF combo where the copper heatsink runs through the injection molded aluminum baseplate, it's obvious that the two halves are not even flat with one another and the pipe that runs through the middle sticks out. Putting HSF combo onto my CPU, I could rock it back and forth in about 1/4 of a mm. Iiterally >1/2 of the surface area of the base plate would be out of contact with the CPU and would require some serious TIM (Thermal Interface Material) to transfer heat. Presenting the cooler on a sheet of glass would give a better look at the differences between the surfaces of the bottom of this HSF combo.

After 4h30m of lapping, I finally got it flat and mirror-like. It took nearly 3hrs of wet sanding on 400 grit sandpaper before I could move on to successively finer grits (800,1000, 1500, 2000). After it was flat, only an hour of lapping, on wet sandpaper on a sheet of glass, was needed to get at a near mirror like shine.

Performance wise, after lapping, increased by a few degrees and got me to the TDP I needed to run my i7-2600s under full load and under 60C. I feel that the QA is very lacking in this cooler compared to the CNPS10x. It was probably an afterthought for Zalman since this design is to keep your CPU from becoming toast vs keeping the system extremely cool.

Hitting the 120W TDP is a pipe dream, your CPU will be throttled if you try. It can barely keep up at 65W TDP rated CPUs, but it is the smallest/shortest/highest performing combination available on the market for an NSC-800, period, but there's room for improvement.

I had no problem to install the coolmaster Evo 210... after watching a 30 min video and past experience. But this Zalman is alot easier, take alot less time to install, It's as quiet and the Evo, cost less. By the way in the Zalman manual, they explain in what direction the fan should blow up, in the Evo, no idea. The Evo is a bit bigger, and all pipes touch the cpu, The Zalman is 4 pipes and touch the cpu, but they have space between. I don't believe it make much a difference. I am not overclocking. The instructions are easy to follow. There is only 2 screws to screw in, the rest is pop clip in plastic. No need to remove the mother board and multiple plates to install, no crazy x shape bracket. So far the fan is slow, silent. It's installed in a Ubundu system, just to mention that great OS. Make sure in the bios the fan is set to PWM, It will make the fan speed adjust to the needs. More heat, the fan blow more. It work if you mother board ahve a 4 pins for the Cpu fan and set in the bios.

I'm using this to cool a 55W TDP processor in a silverstone ML06. It's a very thin HTPC style case, and with the optional 3.5" HDD installed, it's not even enough clearance for the stock cooler (you only get 37mm). There aren't many coolers out there that will work. As the previous reviewer mentioned, the contact surface is not perfectly flat, but it's not too bad, and temperatures are staying very reasonable. The thermal paste (I dinn't use the included stuff) is doing it's job filling the gaps I guess. Fan is probably a little louder than stock, but not too bad.

Came with some thermal grease -- more than enough to cover both the CPU and the underside of the cooler if you wish. Noticed huge improvement at idle and full load over stock cooler (stock cooler for my A10 APU would hover at 55-60c idle, now 38-40c). Installation on any AMD AM2/AM3/AM3+/FM1/FM2 socket is going to be a breeze! Fan is quiet enough for me.
