From Earth to S.P.A.C.E, from humans to Zyxians, this book will keep you entertained and intrigued as you get to know the characters amid captivating surroundings. With descriptive scenes it was easy to visualize what Q saw as he discovers this whole other world full of things he never imagined in his wildest dreams were true. To discover his brother has a secret life in a world so different and beautiful (yet dangerous) is quite the shock to Q but his curiosity is stronger than fear and next thing you know he is thrown into his own fantastic adventure.
All the characters are well developed and I really enjoyed reading their stories. I knew getting into this book that it was a sci-fi romance but I was surprised by how much I enjoyed every aspect, not just the sci-fi side. The author does a great job of showing the character’s feelings instead of just telling you so that you can really get into their heads and feel what they are feeling. The romance side of this story was sweet and fun to read. The sci-fi side was fascinating and unique. Would love to know more about how the portals work.
I also liked how the tension builds and builds, keeping you glued to the book and just waiting to know what happens next. With the first person narrative you can really get to know Q and experience what he is going through from his perspective.Read more ›
I had mixed feelings about the book. Coming to think of it, this is the first Science Fiction that I have ever read - wow, yes, I can't believe it myself. I love Science Fictions but mostly enjoyed watching movies but never tried reading a book. Maybe, this genre is always like that, I am not sure. But, I do love to read books, lots of them.
I liked the imagination by the author, his creativity and the techno jargon spread across the book; I loved some of the characters but, overall I felt the book was tilting slightly to the childish category. The incidents, the scenarios were well concocted but ended abruptly or predictably or in a hurry - always leaving me wanting more. Maybe, he was trying to cover so much in this book that he ended up stretching it too thin.
I will give him an A+ for imagination and techno gobbledygook, a B+ for creativity and efforts, a C for the structure and the flow. For a first attempt, it is a commendable effort, especially coming from a 10th grader. He has done a great job writing such an imaginative story. Hopefully, his next book(s) will fix the shortcomings and make it a fast read. I am looking forward to his second creation.
Honestly, there were times I was so tempted to stop reading the book but I kept going... I was not sorry I went through the entire book.
To give him a fair review, I should read another Science Fiction by some other famous author to see if this is the norm for all Science Fictions or things can be different or better. If I feel differently, I will be happy to update my review.
I have to say before I downloaded this book I read the negative comment and I nearly did not get it but I am so glad I did. One of the first things that stood out to me about this book was the cover which for some reason interested me and so I read the description and found that it was right up my street. I love this Sci-fi genre and it is something that I am quite interested in.
The story flowed very nicely and I found it really easy to follow and understand. One thing I would say is that I personally don’t like book that are in the narrative style of writing simply because to me it seems to stop the flow of the story but this one surprised me it was very easy to follow and I never came to a point in the book where I wanted to stop reading.
Some of the technology used in the book by the author is brilliantly described and very easy to think that it could in some way be possible. I also like the relationship between Q and Carlos it is very well written and you feel the connection straight away. For me one of the best thing I look for in a book is for the action to start early in the book to really get you going and wanting to read more and this book did just that I truly enjoyed reading every page.
I would recommend this book to anyone interested in this genre this is a very well interesting scf-fi novel and is up there with some of my favourites all in all a very great read I will be looking out for more books by this author
