About the authors

After graduating from the prestigious Parsons School of Design, Brian Wood spent several years in video game design with Rockstar Games, most notably for the Grand Theft Auto franchise before moving full time into writing. Brian’s comic book work has been published by DC Entertainment, Marvel Comics, Image Comics, Dark Horse, Boom! Studios, and others.
His original graphic novels are some of the most influential in comics. Starting with Channel Zero, his street activist call-to-arms, Brian has unapologetically made politics and socially conscious thrillers the center of his career. His DMZ defined comics’ response to the war on terror. The Massive took on climate change and next-gen environmentalism. Briggs Land, the crime saga set on a secessionist compound, tackled the scourge of the alt right. Starve is about food sustainability and class divide.
His historical fiction has similarly blazed a singular trail. Northlanders, his Viking anthology, set a benchmark in the comics industry. Rebels, his populist American Revolution anthology, is on the curriculum of schools across the country. Sword Daughter is a pulpy Samurai/Norse mashup, and Magnus Black, the brutal fixer in Black Road, is a Jack Reacher for the dark ages.
His YA books Demo, Local, Mara, and The New York Four have made YASLA and New York Public Library best-of lists. He’s also written for some of the biggest franchises in pop culture, including Star Wars, Aliens, Terminator, RoboCop, and the X-Men.
He co-wrote the award-winning video game 1979 Revolution: Black Friday and contributed story material to Fox’s upcoming Alien shooter.
He’s written TV pilots for AMC, Team Downey and Sonar Entertainment, and WV Enterprises. His DMZ is currently in production at HBO Max with Ava DuVernay directing.

For the action fans, this book is incredibly violent and very action packed. Don't let the emo stuff distract you. There's plenty of barbarian gore here. Very glad i picked up this book. I'm not willing to say this is a better version of Conan, but I do like this Belit much better than the one in the Marvel run.
The art is splendid at times, both the panoramas, which capture the fantastic old world and its cities very well (love the Venetian/Florentine touch), and the bloody fighting scenes, which left quite an impression. The script is a typical Conan variation, nothing spectacular, but nothing to be trashed either. The re-interpretation of the Queen as a pale, wicked woman is intriguing.
Looking at all the Conan publications I have read, I regard this one to be at the very top, and I recommend to read it.
The only reason I purchased this is because I've greatly enjoyed Dark Horse's previous Conan efforts and want them to continue to make them. Many of my fellow Howard fans have not been so generous and will no longer be buying this run.

Or, I love this book!! everything in it as some resonance to me. One of the key to me is the art style. Cloonan did a wonderful job, as does Harren. The art is kind of a departure of the classic barbarian style like Frazetta. And it's a great thing. Not that I don't like is art (he's visibly a great painter), but this new style brings a new sensibility to the genre. And I think it's the greatest thing about the book. Not that Wood doesn't do a great job (he does!), but the art brings something new, but it doesn't ruined Conan. So everything is well rounded (I don't really talk about Wood, since he does a great job as always!) and the colors are great!
I highly recommand this book to anyone who isn't a fan of Conan or fantasy but want to try something different... and to those who love fantasy (It's just great and fun to read!)
