STORY: You are found on a cross in the desert. You are going to die the "civilized" way because they were too weak to just outright kill you. Yes, that is how it is put to you. You are freed and told to survive in these lands, however unforgiving they may be...and they definitely can be. Now it's time to head north. Sorry, no more on that. I hate spoilers.
MODES: You can choose between many modes, including Solo, Hosted Server (you are tethered to the host and can't go too far), PVP Servers, PVE Servers, and Rentable Servers to set how you want like in Solo or Hosted ones. The Official Servers have been stable for me so far, but they will need more. They also have other kinds on the PC they are possibly going to bring to console.
ENVIRONMENT: It is harsh, unforgiving, and will kill you. Put down a bedroll often as you explore and move forward. There are varying biomes, like deserts, jungles, snow areas, and others, plus more to come. Map is massive with things everywhere from animals and npc camps to dungeons that will wipe you and your merry band of ring carrying hobbits...sorry wrong films. You will be hit with storms and weather that will kill you. You may just walk along and a nice rock will jump out of the ground smash your brains. Be careful, prepare, and you might survive.
CRAFTING: This is where Conan Exiles gets a step ahead imo of other games. The crafting seems simple on the first page, until you tap R1 then open up the sub sections. There is ALOT here to work with and towards. You have structures, weapons (swords, bows, spears, axes, maces, mauls, greatswords, etc), shields, armor, crafting stations, cooking stations, etc. Alot of crafting to be done. You can even capture people by knocking them out and "break" their spirit on a thrall wheel so they join you. Just make sure they have gruel to eat while walking that wheel.
COMBAT: Definitely better than most similar games. Different weapons perform different ways. Spears have reach, while a mace can smash things with loads of damage but a tad slower, and swords are a safe balance of dealing out death and mayhem to your enemies. Your stamina bar plays a massive role here, since you use stamina to dodge (yes, you can actually dodge in this, unlike other similar games), do normal attacks, and a good bit of stamina for special harder hitting attacks. Different weapons have different special attacks. Personally like the one handed battle axe so I can lunge across the field to my enemies. There are plenty of varying enemies to lay waste to.
PURGE: This is a newer addition. This consists of your purge bar filling as you play the game. It is seen on the menu under your character. Once full, you and all you hold dear will be assaulted by waves of enemies. It isn't easy and preparation is key or you will die. Different zones have different enemies, and generally the further north you go, the harder they become. They can be turned off or on for Solo or Servers you may be running. This imo adds alot to pve servers and gives reason to them.
END: If you enjoy crafting style games with challenge, alot of content, and good combat, then pick this up. Just make sure you keep your spine and skin together at all costs. Go, Live, Love, Fight... Survive
Would have rated 5 stars when they fix all the bugs and the lag, it is the most laggy game I have played online that I can remember.
They are steady patching to fix bugs though..it's really riddled with them at the moment, but it's only a little over the first week, hope it gets better.
Love, love, love this game though, it is very creative.
