A Concise Guide to Personality Disorders 1st Edition, Kindle Edition

3.9 3.9 out of 5 stars 11 ratings

This book reviews what we know and what we don’t know about PDs, and what this implies for clinical practice.

Clients with personality disorders (PDs) present special challenges to clinicians. Nonetheless, successful treatment is possible, and a rapidly growing research base can inform diagnosis and intervention.
A Concise Guide to Personality Disorders integrates a large body of research findings into a concise, highly practical approach to managing difficult clients. Rather than advocating a single method of treatment, Joel Paris promotes an integration of all evidence-based psychotherapies, as well as effective case management. The evidence base for pharmacotherapy is reviewed as well. Focusing particularly on borderline, antisocial, and narcissistic PDs, the author also reviews other PD categories. His extensive experience and clinical wisdom illuminate the discussion, demonstrating how to work productively and empathically with these clients.

The book was well-written and well-documented. I enjoyed reading it. However, I read it in order to fill part of my continuing education requirements for licensure as a Clinical Psychology. For that reason, I took a test -- reasonable questions -- but had difficulty getting to the next part -- evaluating the course. Finally I did it, but had to take the test again...okay, I still passed. But now I cannot download the certificate which I have to send to my state's licensing board. Not only I couldn't, but my husband couldn't, and he's computer-competent. Neither could our friend who is even more computer competent. The only reason to buy this book, therefore, is because you want to read it. Don't buy it in order to satisfy American Psychological Association or a state psychological associate continuing education requirement.

I purchased this book to get a better understanding of personality disorders. There are multiple pages of descriptions of borderline and narcissistic and antisocial (all of which have hundreds of books written about them). The other six PD have less pages combined than even one of the big 3 listed above written about them with only 2 - 7 paragraphs apiece. The DSM-5 is more helpful. Very disappointed with this purchase. When he calls it concise he is not kidding.

No aporta mucho sobre el último escrito por el mismo autor. Quizás la investigación sobre trastornos de personalidad no avanza a la misma velocidad q la del trastorno límite. Me ha decepcionado

3.0 out of 5 stars Très bien, très concis, voire trop
