Ava “Spike” Harrison is as shocked as the next girl when OSHA shuts down her school-renovation project on Albany’s Pearl Street. OSHA is citing asbestos contamination, which is a complete disaster since the school has been operating during the entire renovation. As if it couldn’t get any worse, the asbestos that removal-subcontractor Spike was hired to remove has suspiciously disappeared. Within days, the OSHA investigation evolves into criminal indictments, and hefty fines seem certain to crush Harrison Construction. Spike’s only option to avoid prison and save her company is to duck authorities and hunt for the missing man. Partnering with The Equalizer (her trusty hammer) and a well-connected PI, she traces the asbestos contractor and the school’s contamination to the doorstep of Albany’s developer elites. Expert pacing is the strength here; Zandri steadily throws down obstacles and clues that force Spike to doubt everything in the life she’s built on trust. Readers, particularly fans of Barbara Seranella’s Munch Mancini series, will be interested in the construction details and the perspective of a female contractor in a maledominated field. — Christine Tran

Other strong women were also a central part of the story, including Tess and Stella. The author must admire intelligent, strong, tough women, who live through anything! He does an excellent job of developing their charcters. They are believeable.
The plot was very well developed, fast moving, exciting and believeable. Descripitions of both people and landscapes were excellent.
I enjoyed all the surprises at the end of the book. I had deduced some of them but, the author kept us hanging till the very end, where one
I woule recommend this book to anyone who likes a fast paced read, strong women characters, and just a good old fashion mystery.
The story was fun, ridiculous plot, unrealistic events, but it was fun :). A quick easy commute read. Perfect!
When I got to the end of the book I was surprised it was over already. Hope the author has a follow up book!
I read voraciously and consume every genre I can get my hands on, but it's rare to pick up something that can so consume my time and attention that I can shut out all else. And even forget to feed the cat.
Contractors who scam the public while pretending
To build to benefit the public. But lovely Spike
Harrison digs deeply and learns the truth about what
Really happened at p.s.20. A well written book that
