About the Author

Before becoming a full-time writer, Darryl Nyznyk (pronounced NIZ-nik) practiced law for two decades. As an attorney, he dealt with developers and environmental groups like the California Coastal Commission and the Sierra Club. After working on a case involving the Sierra Club, Nyznyk purchased a book called WILD AT LAW to read more about the group, and became enthralled with their work. He was especially drawn to the story of the Sierra Club’s efforts to stop Walt Disney from building the ultimate ski resort in the Mineral King Valley of the Sierra Nevada Mountains in Southern California. That's when the idea for his latest novel, an environmental legal thriller called THE CONDOR SONG (June 2013) hit him. “I became interested in the entire concept of the various sides of the debate of good and evil,” says Nyznyk. “Here you have Walt Disney, an honorary member of the Sierra Club, trying to build an environmentally friendly development in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, and he is opposed by the Sierra Club on the basis that no matter what Disney did to make the project environmentally friendly, it simply couldn't be done.” Nyznyk was raised in a middle-class family in a Los Angeles suburb. His upbringing didn’t prepare him for campus life at UC—Santa Barbara during the anti-war demonstrations of the early 1970s. It was a wild time in a wild place, and it ultimately ingrained in him a sense of individualism, tempered by the social consciousness that helped shape his core and now forms the foundation of his writing. After graduation, Nyznyk continued on to receive his Magna Cum Laude Law Degree at the University of San Diego. Family and a wide-ranging law practice consumed most of the next 20 years of his life. For nine years after private practice, he was general counsel and then president of a Southern California real estate development company. Since then, he has gone into occasional teaching and full-time writing. His first novel was a political thriller titled THE THIRD TERM and his second a Christmas novel titled MARY'S SON, A Tale of Christmas. An Amazon best-seller, MARY'S SON is also a three-time Gold recipient of the Mom’s Choice Awards: Most Inspirational/Motivational book for Juvenile and Young Adult readers and Best Fiction/Literature for Adults. Father to four grown daughters, Nyznyk lives in Manhattan Beach, California with his wife Loretta.

When I first started reading The Condor Song, I had no idea what I was getting into. I suspected it would be a good. I had read something by Mr. Nyznyk before. But this was startling well written.. I thoroughly enjoyed it. This is a wonderful legal thriller. The Condor Song puts Darryl Nyznyk in the top tier of mystery writers like David Rosenfelt, Robert B. Parker and others. It's a great read.

A well-paced novel with mystery, adventure, courtroom drama, and the beauty of California’s Sierra Nevada mountains, Darryl Nyznyk’s The Condor Song sends a man, whose life was destroyed by betrayal, in search of a bird that hovers equally on the brink of extinction. As the story progresses, both man and bird find a place to lay their heads, while readers are led to explore politics, ethics, commitment, law, and environmentalism.

The scenery of a glorious mountain paradise is beautifully and evocatively described, and the soaring condor becomes a haunting backdrop to this tale, dangerous, maybe even greedy, but surely a part of nature with a right to a place to fly. People have rights as well, of course, and if an old man longs to turn a beautiful stretch of land into a resort for everyone, why should he be denied?

There’s a nice mix of seriously evil bad guys with the simply deluded in this tale, and a flawed protagonist dragged kicking and screaming into a place where his out-of-control life might be centered again. The land is an important character, as is the bird. Tension spirals upward as every good goal is seemingly thwarted, but the hand of evil coincidence turns, and a possibility of hope sends characters out on a tense quest where no one knows where the real danger lies.

Strong threads of family, romance and hope thread through this tale, relieving the stress of failure and leading to nicely plausible courtroom scenes and unexpected conclusions. I really enjoyed it.

Disclosure: I was given a free copy of this novel with a request for my honest review.

Buck Anderson was an environmentalist trying to save the Sierra Nevada Mountains from a Disney-like developer who may be connected to the Mexican mafia and who will stop at nothing to protect his investment and his lifelong dream of doing something Walt Disney had failed to do--build a ski resort in the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

Sean Donavan is a struggling attorney who had been betrayed and fired by his former law firm after taking an ethical stand on an issue. Not only did he lose his job, he was abandoned by his wife, lost his kids, and temporarily lost his law license. After 13 years, Donovan is asked to represent the Sierra Club in its fight to protect the environment against the developer, Atticus Golden, after the murder of Buck Anderson. The case pits him against his former law firm and the man who betrayed him.

"The Condor Song" is an environmental thriller filled with mystery and suspense. The plot is creative even though a bit predictable. I was disappointed that the author felt it necessary to use obscene language. The story and characters could get along without them. Darryl Nyznyk, author, set out the environmental agenda without being pushy or insulting. Even though the plot stemmed from the fight to save the Condor by protecting its environment, solving the murder and winning the case were the primary story lines.

Nyznyk begins the book on an exciting note but fails to keep it going. However, the plot is captivating and he makes the reader want to continue reading. If you do not like books with obscene language, don' t pick this one up. I was deeply disappointed that the author felt he had to use obscenity at all.

Let's face it. Whenever a new writer of legal thrillers comes along, the comparison always seem to lead to John Grisham. Well rest assured, with Darryl Nyznyk's legal and environmental thriller THE CONDOR SONG we don't have one of those pretenders to the throne--we have the real deal. In Mr. Nyznyk we have a writer who has now joined the ranks of the best of the best. This legal thriller is brilliantly written with genuine characters. It is also new and refreshing in its story and settings. I loved this book and so will you.

A gripping & interesting book, the author reminds me of a contemporary of the Russian classics with an in-depth perception of human characters, flawlessly depicted whether female or male.
A wealth of compassion and understanding flows while the moral issues each lawyer has to contend with sometimes during his career are being pondered. The suspense is thick as in any court case, the romantic event developing on the side unexpected yet decisive in the final outlook on life of our hero.
Sean is a darn good man whose high moral standards forced him to speak his truth and stick to his values- committing career suicide and breaking his marriage and family life.
I had a lot of pleasure following the intricate web of this novel, regaling myself into a perfect end.
Yes. I recommend it.
