About the Author

A Democrat, Congressman X demanded anonymity for fear of retribution from his colleagues and constituents. In his own words: "I don't have the desire to soil my legacy, nor do I want to embarrass my family or the congressional colleagues I've worked with through the years. I also don't wish to subject myself to a barrage of incoming crap from the sanctimonious progressives in my party."

I wish the uninformed would read this book

I wasn't expecting a tome and I didn't get one. My daughter and I have been discussing politics lately, I have been telling her how our system doesn't work and how it is rigged in favor of those who lavish favors on politicians. As the author states most of the electorate are clueless sheep and will follow the party line or those that they think will benefit them personally. My hope is that people that aren't aware of how Washington works (or doesn't) will read this book. I don't believe this book was written for the politically well informed and the size of the fonts, margins and the thickness of the book aren't really that important. I think the book is ideally suited for the politically uninformed and might be succinct enough for the average voter, if they can tear themselves away from Jersey Shore long enough to read it. Buy the book and give it to your kids that don't show much interest in politics, maybe they will become more involved in our political process.

Book Review: “Confessions of Congressman X”

Some of you may have heard about this “book,” (it’s only 68 pages long) on Fox News. I was able to buy it on Kindle yesterday and read it last night. For those of us who watch politicians and politics closely, there are very few surprises. Washington DC is a cesspool of lying and cheating in the pursuit of power and wealth. Everyone who gets elected and goes to DC gets infected. There are none who avoid it.
It is a fast read…took me about 45 minutes. Rather than an expose̍ on politicians, it is an indictment of the voters. The reader should have a strong sense of self-worth if they are going to read this brief insight into the darker side of politics. The author calls American voters “apathetic and gullible” with strong feelings of “powerless[ness] about changing the status quo.” These characteristics are not used as a criticism, but as a reason for politicians having so much power. Let’s not forget Churchill’s observation, “The best argument against a democracy is a brief chat with the average voter.”
Congressman X points out, “It’s far easier than you think to manipulate a nation of naïve, self-absorbed sheep who crave instant gratification.” This is “us” that the congressman is talking about. The big flaw in the system according to “X” is fundraising. He admits that asking us for money is so time consuming that he rarely has time to read the Bills that he is voting on. The second most hateful part of the job is town hall meetings. Town hall meetings are easier for officials who are “charming liars.”
One can only wonder at what point a newly elected freshman congressman is corrupted by the system. According to “X,” it can’t take long because it is obvious to even the most motivated elected official that the number one objective is to stay in power. That requires lots of money and it is big business and their lobbyist that can provide that kind of cash. That means that the little guys, the average middle class working stiff, will just have to wait for their needs to get met. “X” and his colleagues know that our short attention spans and self-centered views will help the elected elites keep their seats. The solution is simple, tell the voters what they want to hear and then do what has to be done to stay in power.
As “X” points out, “As far as I’m concerned, whatever viewpoint I embrace is the truth.” In an environment where “Cheating and lying have become a societal norm,” the gullible are more than willing to vote for a congressman over and over again with little or nothing to show for it.
We the common people are not highly thought of by our representatives in Washington or the state capitol. To them the voters are the useful idiots.
I can only pray that every voter reads this book the day before they vote.

The book is a quick read and should be, listed at 84 pages, 8 pages of preface, 65 pages of large font double spaced the remaining is filler.
The book is an accumulations of short thoughts. If you have watched House of Cards it would be all the asides Frank Underwood says to the camera. Many of the statements in the book could easily be put in the script for FU to utter. Is it ground breaking, no. Is it heart breaking, yes. To read what is known about Congress and the system is depressing.

Nice try by the Congressman to get me to believe he has conscience. It didn't work. By staying anonymous, you are doing nothing but being part of the problem. We need solutions, not you telling us most of what we already know. It is obvious you are a multiple termer. This is a great reason why we need term limits for Congress and the Senate. One term EACH. Do us all a favor - come out of the "closet" by telling us who you are, and tell us how we solve this crisis. God Bless America.

A shocking book that was quite depressing. I had no clue and wish I hadn't read it but it makes total sense. I am glad that whoever wrote this did write it. I think it is a good piece of information to get people to think about term limits and also consider what is going on in this election.

The amount of monies that goes into the "establishment" versus our government functioning is not impressive - if this book is to be believed. Worth the read, sure learned stuff that the main stream media and others have never disclosed.

Not for the weak at heart.

Will make you shout for term limits on elected officials

You have got to read this book before the November election. It is short (about 67 pages) but confirms the many rumors that have been published over the years of how the "good old boy" system works in Congress. Please note this is not about being a Democrat or Republican, it is about the inter workings of the House and House committees. If this book does not convince you of the need for term limits on Congressional officials, nothing will.

I'm giving this 5 stars even though you can read the book in about 20 minutes. And the book merely states the obvious for those who follow politics at all. It's just refreshing to hear a Member of Congress admit to all of the shenanigans albeit anonymously.

Whoever the author is, he/she should use it in his/her campaign materials and come out of the closet. Would probably win with 95% of the vote.
