Worked for me, and it was pretty cheap!
It turns out that the life isn't so glamorous, but it can certainly support your self-employment and financial independence. She's one of the most prolific professional bloggers I know (over 25,000 Google search results) and a tremendously efficient writer.
After the book's introduction, in 10 quick chapters she takes you through the process and the mechanics of turning your writing skills into a career. She paints a very realistic picture of the type of writing that you'll do for money, as well as how to do more of what you love. She prefers to write for others, although she discusses ways to turn a profit from your own blog. You'll learn how to network with other freelancers and bloggers and how to gain steady customers. You'll find tactics to add your own unique spin on topics that have already been written about thousands of times. You'll determine how to set your rates, how much time to spend on a project, and how to delegate the chores you don't enjoy. You'll even learn how to manage your working hours and your cashflow.
Miranda didn't just write about these concepts-- she put them into action with a unique IndieGoGo campaign that raised the money for her to write and market the book. (I contributed to her campaign to get my copy.) She not only self-published the book, but she even managed to create her own publisher's advance.
Read it for the tactics and the tips, or read it for the inspiration-- but it's worth the read and you'll quickly recoup the cost.
