Editorial Reviews

Review

"Her inspiring story culminates in the scoop of the decade—a joyous interview with John and Yoko, ending with the sudden tragedy that shattered her psyche and shook the whole world.” —Madeline Bocaro, author, In Your Mind—The Infinite Universe of Yoko Ono

“Name-dropping? Well, they say it ain’t bragging if you really did it, and Laurie Kaye has really done it."
Chris Frantz, drummer/cofounder, Talking Heads, Tom Tom Club; author, Remain in Love

"Laurie Kaye makes it possible for readers to experience ‘being there’ with her rock ’n’ roll confessional.”
Dave Sholin, former RKO exec/executive producer; current air personality/assistant programmer, KSJJ/KGMX Bend, Oregon --This text refers to the paperback edition.

About the Author

Laurie Kaye began her career in radio at KFRC-AM San Francisco, for years one of the nation’ s greatest top 40 stations, where she started as an intern and worked her way up to on-air reporter and anchor. She wrote and coproduced numerous radio rock specials for RKO, including RKO Presents the Beatles (later expanded and retitled as The Beatles from Liverpool to Legend), and The Top 100 of the 70’ s before moving on to write Dick Clark’ s weekly radio countdown show and syndicated newspaper column. Kaye then moved on to television and film as a writer, producer, and casting director, where she still works today, handling both creative content and line producing for docuseries pilots. --This text refers to the paperback edition.

Where were you on Dec. 8l, 1980...?
For those of us who were there - and cared - when John Lennon was murdered it was a moment seared in our individual and collective hearts as if it just happened yesterday. Now imagine being a twenty-something uber-talented and up and coming rock 'n' roll journalist getting the scoop of her young professional life -Lennon's comeback with "Double Fantasy" written and produced with his wife/muse/spiritual guide extraordinaire, Yoko Ono, in 1980. Continue to imagine the interview not only going well, it was an authentic conversation with the quick-witted young journalist and John and Yoko et al that ranged from child-rearing (Sean Ono Lennon), reflections on the Beatles (John's two favorite musical collaborators), what inspired him to write music again (after the drunk-hazed "lost weekend" in L.A.), to his excitement over the prolific outpouring of music he and Yoko were ready to release. And finally, now imagine this uber-talented and up and coming journalist heading home to transcribe the interview tapes of her wildest rock 'n' roll dreams only to hear the news that John Lennon had been murdered where she had only hours left and crossed-paths with his murderer. And that's only Chapter 1. "A Rock 'n' Roll Name-Dropper: My Life Leading up to John Lennon's Last Interview" is one of the most riveting, heartbreaking, and yet hilariously relatable page-turners for anyone who lived, loved, and lost the magic of John Lennon on Dec. 8, 1980.
