I found this book to be EXTREMELY helpful in my communication with my 19-year-old daughter living at home. With the easy guidelines about my "Ladder of Assumptions", I can find a way to keep calm and listen to her instead of jumping to my anxious conclusions about her behaviors. Very readable and easy to remember in the "stressful" moments of conflict. Read it!!!

This is a helpful book. It would be ideal if all conflicts could be resolved by the systematic, mutual clarification of assumptions it recommends. That ideal may not always be attained, but readers can resolve most conflicts by heeding the authors' advice to cultivate awareness their own assumptions and remember that conflicts offer opportunities to learn. The vignettes utilize the power of story to make the book's propositions touch the heart.

This book presents concepts and exercises to improve all types of communication, especially in conflict. It is easy to read and the instructions are easy to follow. The concepts are solid (I've met them in more academic presentations), and the exercises and suggestions work (if you follow them). Highly recommend this for anyone who feels frustrated by unsatisfactory conversations!

This little book has easy-to-understand practical wisdom. The authors use their expertise to simplify and clarify real world situations that we face in families, groups, the workplace, and even larger scale. Through explanations, coaching, and teaching, it gets across simple ways to solve disputes and come out better for it. I was surprised how useful it is to me in the various groups I'm involved with, so worth the money. I am considering multiple copies to share with others facing conflict. The authors' care for others is so evident.
