Each chapter is introduced with a familiar hymn, a scripture or quote from diaries and journals of a family member and a story telling of life as a missionary, serving the remote areas of Africa. Each story ends with an application to life, an encouraging word of Scripture or a probing question to consider.
Lantz writes in a style that gives the reader the comfortable feeling of knowing the family personally experiencing with them their joys, their grief, their troubles and triumphs and the excitement that comes while fulfilling God's purpose.
"Congo Vignettes" offers hope and comfort to anyone entering a new culture, or an uncharted course in life. The stories are filled with insights into the lives of missionary pioneers, those who have responded to the call to missions. Lantz offers the reader a challenge to join in the adventure of world missions. The book is a tribute to Shawn's parents, Jim and Nancy Smith, and to her grandparents, Laban and Marcella Smith. Stirring stories of God's love, provision, and presence.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book, but it was not a hard read for my 5th grader.
