I have purchased several other more expensive Wi-Fi controlled plugs prior to these and I'll admit, I was a bit skeptical at first because they were so much cheaper. These work just as well for about half the price but they are not iintended for power intensive devices or appliances like my duraflame electric fireplace or Honeywell air conditioner.
Currently, I have 4 different brands of Wi-Fi plugs (wemo, ihome, tp Link and these) controlling about 20 different things in my home. I have had issues with a couple of the other brands going offline, but so far, I have not experienced any issues with these and have been using them for about 4 months as of this review.
Since purchasing the first 2, I have ordered 6 more for myself and 2 for a friend.
I have not received any discounts for my review.
These outlets use an application called Jinvoo Smart and overall they work very well. Pairing is pretty straight forward, they have a manual on / off switch, and they work with the Amazon echo (Alexa) after installing the Jinvoo skill.
The Jinvoo app is not that pretty, but it does the job. The app allows you to set timers for each outlet and has not failed me yet. I automated 4 outlets for my indoor Christmas lights.
As seen in the picture, the outlets also will also stack 2 in a standard outlet.
I like to keep all my smart devices in my Wink app for non-voice control and these don't seem to be compatible. I need to open a separate app to control them, but when on sale for <$12 each I can't pass them up. These are worth the money even at $20 each.
These are not dimmable. I don't think I have seen a dimmable version.
I recently started to explore smart home devices. I bought 2 Google homes and 1 Amazon Echo. Now I need to buy something that can be controlled though them. I started with this smart plug. The quality is pretty good. And setup was very smooth. It supports both Google and Amazon so now I can ask either Google Home and Amazon Echo to turn on or off the plug. The device responses very quickly.
PS: I also realized these wifi based smart home devices all talk to their own services. I don't feel it's the right implementation of Smart Home. I would rather have full control of my smart devices and only delegate limited access to very a few trusted services like Google or Amazon.
If you have Echo/Alexa and or Google Home or Something like that, these are awesome to make life easier. You can set them for timers but also control them with Alex/G Home etc... The only downside for me was that they don't have sunrise/sunset settings in the timers like Wemo does. I use those a lot and as the sunrise/sunset changes they change automatically.
Also the two packs is great value!
The Bad: Setup is a bit odd. Ignore the instructions that come with it. The "English" is roughly translated and sometimes completely outdated. Just install the app and select electrical outlet. It takes a while. Hold the power button on the side to make it flash and wait.
The Ugly: So far nothing yet. The outlets take up space but they aren't too terrible. Just keep them out of site.
The Summary: It works with Alexa which is fantastic. "Alexa, turn of my Christmas Lights." Bam! First World awesomeness. My only concern is what others have stated that they stopped working after a while. IF they do I will come back and adjust my review immediately. For now, they work awesome.
