I had to buy this book for a class. Though the images are useful, and the information is pertinent to the class, there are a lot of details that are missing from various sections of the book. When answering questions for class, I realized that I could not verify things in the book because specific enzymes for many pathways of metabolism were missing.

Though there is information missing from the book, it is one of the best formatted textbooks I have ever used. It is extremely easy to find things, for there is both an index at the back of the book as well as at the end of each chapter. The "focus questions" found throughout the book are actually answered, either at the end of the chapter or in an appendix at the back. The glossary is extremely useful, detailed, and easy to understand, another rarity among textbooks. To actually be able to use the focus questions is an amazing new concept for me as a user. I have been able to test my knowledge, and when I do not understand a question or how to find the answer, I can actually discover the accurate answer without doubts or concern. In addition, each chapter has a useful outline of the chapter as well as a case study related to the information addressed in the chapter.

Overall, though there is supplemental information required in lectures in order to have a complete level of information, the textbook is one of the easiest texts I have used thus far.

I needed this textbook for a class at University of Michigan, and it's a great textbook with very good pictures, charts, and graphics (especially great if you're a visual learner). For an in depth look at physiology, this is a great foundation building book. The only thing that bugs me about the book is the incredibly glossy pages. I couldn't seem to underline for the life of me when using a pencil (I'm sure it's fine if you use a pen or highlighter). The previous edition of this book is almost identical, with matte paper, so if I would have to buy it again, I'd get the previous edition. Not to mention I'd be paying a lot less.

My professor doesn't teach like the book does. I wish this book explained what was going on, for me personally I have to read over one topic over and over before I can understand it. i wish the book was more simple, I'm not saying science is easy, but when i finally understand the topic I'm like "is that all it was trying to say, I could definitely have written it more simply". I followed one subject that I was really struggling w/and planned to read the whole section. Many times this book goes in circles and you don't get anything out of the text other then a more jumbled view on what you are reading up on. I was learning about Acetylcholine, I sat down to find out the function, I hoped the 1st sentence would explain the basic function, no such luck and I felt more confused then before. ConnectPlus is NOT worth the money. I decided to try the trial version and all connectplus has is a few animations/chapter (you can find better ones free on youtube) and some random quizzes.
