Hmmmm, where do I begin… hmmmmm… hmmmm…. hmmmm? Good Lord! River did not STOP saying “Hmmmm” and it got really annoying! Also, the author used the word “connected” way too much. We get it, they have a connection and your title is called CONNECTED!
Okay, now that I got that out of the way … Connected is about a woman (Dahlia) who goes through a tragedy that no one ever wants to experience or witness. I was crying and this was only the first 10% of the book. Usually books make you cry towards the end but nope, Kim made me cry in the very beginning.
Over the course of the entire book, Dahlia continues to reminisce about that tragedy and her past. Again, it was something that was so beat into the ground. I started to skim those parts when Dahlia would talk about it, because she had apparently moved on but she wouldn’t stop comparing River and her past … over and over and over and over.
Speaking of moving on, who wouldn’t like a hot singer in a band who calls you beautiful and says stuff like, “I swear I won’t stop until your legs are shaking and every hotel guest on this floor knows my name”?
But there was so much sex in this book. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE sex in books but there was too much. It was filler and honestly, I wouldn’t care because like I said, I love sex in books but I didn’t find most of it hot and it was so drawn out that I got bored! Yep, I got bored!
River Wilde is another book boyfriend I love … of course! He lives and breathes Dahlia and loves her so much, but at the same time, he is hiding a secret about her past. We still didn’t find out what that secret was, but I’m sure we will in Torn, which is due to release in October 2013. I have my theory and if I am right, I shouldn’t be disappointed with Torn.
The story was okay. I actually liked the story and I want to read the next book to find out what will happen, since there was a twist at the end of Connected. The beginning seemed to drag on and then the end felt rushed, but overall I would give it three stars.
GAH!! Damn freakin cliffhangers Drive. Me. INSANE!! I'm gonna get my complaints out of the way first, work out my frustration now so I don't rant the entire review. This book had two of my biggest pet peeves in it...
1) insta-love. I am not a fan of insta-love & the whole love at first sight thing. It annoys me actually. I'm one of those people that needs the build up (but maybe that's just me). Insta-lust I get and thoroughly enjoy, but not insta-love. However, it kinda worked with this story which is why it didn't affect my rating. The author played it out nicely and didn't go over the top with it. But it was still there.
2) Damn freakin cliffhanger!! Though this wasn't the worst one I've ever experienced, it was still pretty damn big. I figured out the twist at the end about 3/4 of the way through, but the big reveal still floored me. I mean...Wow, and then...done, and I'm...WHAT?!?? See, lost for words Lol All that mixed with the title for book two has left me freakin nervous.
Ok, rant over. Moving on....
'When our eyes connected it felt like minutes, in reality it was mere seconds. At that moment, something happened inside of me. The connection was like nothing I'd ever felt before. It was an electric pull that willed me in and forced me to keep looking at him.
Everything I saw and everything I felt translated into three little words-he is dangerous. I knew I should look away, walk away, but I didn't. I couldn't. He was just too alluring.'
One fateful Halloween night, two friends go to a bar on USC campus to check out a new band 'The Wilde Ones'. That is when Dahlia London first meets lead singer River Wilde (I know right! How awesome are those names?!)
'Why did I feel something happening within me that was strange and different? It felt like some alien feelings somehow crashed through the universe and knocked on my door. What were these unknown feelings I had deep within me?'
They are immediately drawn to each other. They drink a beer, flirt & instantly form a connection. A connection that River wants to explore and Dahlia is terrified to. You see, Dahlia is unavailable, she has a boyfriend Ben. She does not share this information however and when River takes the stage thinking she'll wait for him, she slips out the door.
'As we walked away I found myself thinking I had just met the most enchanting guy and knowing that I might never be the same.'
We spend the first part of this book with Ben. She has known him her whole life, the only man she has ever been with and she loves him very much. Then BAM!! Everything changes. It was...well, you really should just read it. It was definitely unexpected.
Five years after her first encounter with River, she runs into him again. Their connection is just as strong, only this time Dahlia is single, and emotionally scared.
"I feel like fate has brought us together again. I also believe that one night, so long ago, just wasn't the right time for us. But tonite is."
"Just stay with me, don't interfere with fate now that we've reconnected."
River soon learns that Dahlia has suffered alot of heartache in her life, he's determined to help her heal and refuses to lose her again. Together these two really were sweet & beautiful. Oh & the chemistry was off-the-charts, melt my Kindle, so very freakin hott.
"I swear I won't stop until your legs are shaking and every hotel guest on this floor knows my name."
And then that ending!! Damn, sooo many fears & questions are screaming though my head right now. How the hell am I gonna make it til the next book?!?! In the end, this was an amazingly fabulous debut from this author and I look foward to more from her.
