About Connie Cockrell
A 20-year Air Force career, time as a manager at a computer operations company, wife, mother, sister and volunteer, provides a rich background for Connie Cockrell’s story-telling.
Cockrell grew up in upstate NY, just outside of Gloversville, NY before she joined the military at age 18. Having lived in Europe, Great Britain, and several places around the United States, she now lives in Payson, AZ with her husband: hiking, gardening, and playing bunko. She writes about whatever comes into her head so her books could be in any genre. She's published seventeen books so far, has been included in five different anthologies and been published on EveryDayStories.com and FrontierTales.com. Connie's always on the lookout for a good story idea. Beware, you may be the next one.

Jean knows she should probably just drop it and let Police Chief Nick White get on with the business of solving the case, but her years in the Air Force left her itching to get things done, and done right. After all, where’s the harm in some gossip and some questions?
But the harm quickly becomes apparent when Jean is attacked. The message is clear: Get out. Leave Greyson. Don’t come back. Too bad Jean’s not the kind of woman to run away from such a blatant challenge. This isn’t her first rodeo, and it sure as shade won’t be her last.
Between managing the annual Greyson fair and pursuing the shadowy trail of destruction left by the murderer, Jean has her hands full dealing with drunken brawls and nasty falls, suspicious ex-wives and keen-sharp knives. And that’s not to mention the stubborn Police Chief himself.
Will Jean find the truth before the killer decides enough is enough?
All that changes once again when another dead body shakes this small Arizona town to its foundation, and this time Jean herself is bound for some scrutiny. Corrupt men in power are scheming her downfall, and when Police Chief Nick White tries to stand up for her, he finds himself in the crosshairs too.
Now locked in a race against time, Jean must solve this murder to prove her own innocence to those with more power than sense. With the help of her close allies, Jean might just be able to untangle this web in time to clear her name and save Nick’s job. But the truth, as ever, has no intention of being found…
But when news gets out around town despite his precautions, this blessing soon threatens to turn into a curse—between the claim-jumpers and the Apache and other threats, he’s soon forced to get his hands dirty with blood rather than dirt.
It’s when his Mary shows up nearly unannounced from Santa Rosa that the stakes really ramp up, and Zeke will have to find a way to keep her safe in this Wild West tale of one man’s struggle to have it all.
For Zoe Ohale, life on the streets is hard. Maybe too hard. She is one of the lucky few in the gang to have a place to lay her head, but for the rest an old abandoned warehouse is the best they can hope for to keep out of the rain.
Zoe has debts to pay. On the one side, the Lees are pressuring her to be an informant; on the other, the criminal underworld threatens to swallow her whole. But Zoe would do anything for her gang of orphans, so she shuts up and straddles the line of loyalty between night and day, always teetering on the edge.
But when a new gang of credit thieves comes to Baia Mare, everything is thrown into disarray, and Zoe’s precarious balance starts to crumble. With lies, kidnapping, corruption and even worse in the mix, the city is bound for a descent into anarchy.
Will Zoe find a way to help right a few wrongs? Or will she be the one who ends up needing help?
Will they find a more open welcome this time around? Or is the depravity of man more universal than Alyssa and Kyra can comprehend?
Adventures and Creativity can be found everywhere as the 35 short stories of this anthology show. Each author found a different angle for the unifying theme: The Adventure of Creation.
Follow a girl to the Below-World to slay the Sharkshadow, or help a timid girl to overcome the destructive criticism of her art teacher. Witness a solitary drone on Mars or a naive homunculus struggle to become human. Sew with a mother who lost her daughter in a unicorn quilt, defeat bank robbing super-villains with an unlikely superhero, or join a great mage in the fire.
In thirty-five imaginative stories, emerging authors present the diversity of their creativity. Witness the talent nurtured by writing teacher, Holly Lisle.
