This is my first review ever as i'm not the type to comment or review products, but because of my experience i felt like it was my obligation to warn people about the potential safety hazard these machines present.
I've now owned 2 machines. The first one was defective and was not working properly. I emailed conquer and they sent me out an replacement climber (at no cost) immediately. Like i said, great customer service.
However, thats the only positive feedback i can leave about this purchase. The machines feel sturdy until you experience catastrophic failure. The actual frame broke on my climber while i was working out. It could've been a very dangerous situation. I've attached pictures of my climber and where it broke. As you can see the center beam broke right above the chain and pulley system.
Im currently talking to customer service and i'm trying to get a refund. I do not want a replacement. I do not feel safe working on these machines anymore. I am disappointed because the machine is great for cardio and working out. I just wish the quality of the machine was better.
I hope this was an isolated event, but if these machines are not made properly, customers need to be warned. So i'm trying to warn potential buyers.
Update: 273.5 pounds, and still using it. When I started I could not do 30 reps without stopping. Now I go over 100 easy.
I did find that the length of travel was causing me an issue, so I put some cut off 2x4 pieces in the gap and shortened up the stride. Works great for me now. I alternate the pieces.
I am a veteran with a spinal injury, damaged feet and knees. This is low impact high cardio.
I will say that the design of the machine slim, so you have to be careful not to be too erratic in your movements otherwise the machine will tilt and sway during use.
As for improvements, I wish that there was some sort of tension control mechanism so you could vary the workouts.
The movement of the machine (mimicking rock climbing) is great, though! Like I said, I work a desk job and so having something that gets me moving in a vertical fashion has been great for my lower back and thighs. I'm not in the best shape (by any measure) so 15-30 minutes on this a few times a week is plenty of workout for me.
For reference, I'm 5'5" and 130 lbs.
