If your ambition is to etch your name as one of the high achievers in sales, then you can learn what it takes to do that - Project, Prepare and Persevere.
The authors, Susan Ershler and John Waechter both climbed the seven highest mountains on seven continents and also reached the peak in sales in their respective careers. There are plenty of parallels between climbing these very high mountains and achieving success in any endeavor.
Climbing these very high mountains requires month of preparation, rigorous training and then perseverance in the face of extremely adverse conditions. Simply reading about the harsh conditions is rather stressful. I cannot imagine what it would actually be like to engage in such stressful conditions.
Thankfully you do not need to climb mountains to achieve the kind of success you want in your sales career. But you will need to prepare and then persevere. Success at the higher levels of any activity is not for the weak willed.
In the book, the authors provide a very specific roadmap for success. Clearly articulate your vision. Prepare, do your homework on the inner route and the outer route. Fully understand what it takes to succeed. Then be willing to do what it takes to achieve your goal. Be fully committed.
You can enjoy this book by reading the struggles the authors went through to join the elite club of climbers who have climbed the seven highest peaks on seven continents. You can learn what it is like to struggle under the harshest conditions on earth. And this should really put things in perspective for you.
Ms. Ershler and Mr. Waechter did an excellent job of writing an interesting, entertaining and enlightening book. There are plenty of very interesting stories from their mountain climbing adventures. There are also insightful stories from their sales success. They combine the lessons from mountain climbing and the lessons they teach from successful sales leadership to give the reader an excellent roadmap for success. The book is a quick easy read. If you really want to achieve the top rung of sales success - to write your name of the boards at the Rum Doodle - this book will show you the way. Unfortunately you still have to do the work yourself. But you have two excellent Sherpa Guides - they know the slopes, they have done it themselves and will lead the way.

I led a sales team for a decade learning many of the techniques described by Sue in the book the hard way. We also never systematized a process to connect these techniques and the associated behaviors as succinctly presented. It was very powerful and rewarding to put the guidance provided to work and see financial results. The process outlined can be adopted as your personal strategy supported by a quiver of tactics that are right on target to successfully achieve professional and personal goals.
Every chapter can be put to use the day you read it. Even today, when things get crazy, I find myself returning to reread chapters to get back on route. Chapter 2, Travel Light, has seen a lot of my attention over the years. If you are at all competitive, or personally motivated to achieve success, then Sue’s book provides that daily edge you’ve been looking for.
