But, I also love books that are FREE. Since this is a short (and by short, I mean, half hour to read, tops) story, I figured that I wouldn't be wasting too much time or effort to give it a go.
I loved it. It was short, but sweet and steamy. Somehow, the author made me care deeply about the h and H with a minimal amount of fuss or muss. I think it attests to the strength of author's writing ability that ten minutes into her story, I not only felt a mix of emotions (sad for what the h had gone through, happy for what I suspected would be the beginning of the h's HEA, and excited to take a journey through this new world), but I was invested in the outcome of the characters and fascinated by the vision of a different world that the author was giving me a glimpse into.
I usually reserve 5 stars for books I know I will read again. I won't read this again, simply because it was so short and I have a lot of other titles on my booklist. But this was a perfect lunchroom read, and I will definitely check out more by this author.
Even if you aren't a fan of fantasy or sci-fi, give this short story a try. The romance is fantastic.
I will definitely be giving more books by this author a try.
I picked this book up today in the kindle store for free. This is a fantasy/sci-fi romance written by Rebecca York. This is a VERY short book, but it was really good. The Guardians crashed on the planet Jalaran a century ago. There was no hope of rescue. The people lived in fear of the Jalarans. But, the Guardians had something they wanted. Technology. When it becomes clear that the Guardian males are sterile they make a deal with the Jalarans. If they will mate with their females and produce offspring, they will share their technology. Elena is one of the women chosen. Rohan marries her. He is not the barbarian she thought he would be. She pleases her physically, but over time she begins to fall in love with him. Soon she finds she is pregnant. Before she can tell Rohan, he discovers that the Guardians had betrayed the Jalarans. What will happen to Elena and her child? I don't normally read a lot of sci-fi/ fantasy books, but I love Rebecca York's novels. When a book is free and it's written by reputable author, it's worth a try. It only took me about 15 minutes to read, if that. These short stories are great for a work break or lunch break. This will take you completely away from your stress for a little while. Overall a B+
I wanted this story to be expanded into a full novel. I wanted to see more of the world they lived on. That is the only reason I gave it half a star off. I want more and feel deprived of what could be an a great series of novels. Ms. York, please do us all a favor and write longer novels of this kind. I need stories like this, so many don't reach me as this one did in less than 100 pages. Thank you for a great short that hit all my buttons. :D

A delightful story, I liked the characters and the world building. I am sorry that it was only a short story. I hope that the author writes more books in this series.Published 23 months ago by Cindyaie
It's short. Is there more is less of a complaint and more of a request. I guess, it is a complaint. Would love to see this extended into a full-length novel.Published on June 2, 2014 by VidiVinoVici

I enjoyed reading this short story,it is a fun romantic interlude. I save four and five stars for purely epic fiction. I gave this three stars because it was light reading. Read morePublished on March 4, 2014 by Crane In Flight
